Did you try (FPV) www.fastpictureviewer.com/codecs already? You can try it for 30 days and the price is reasonable with 15 USD. The positive impact on Windows FileManager and DAMs is really impressive.

But take care on your expectations about file support. The fast thumbnail generation is one thing. An of course very important. The preview and image processing in MediaPro is something else. For example the JPG export from RAW seems to be based alsways on the preview and not the RAW image. Due to this I am generating all previees in DNGs with lowest resolution. So I can easily detect if an image display or output is based just on raw-preview or really on raw-original.

I would recommend you to set your SW and HW information in the signature.
Otherwise it is difficult to estimate your OS?

My strategy dealing with all the different legacy files is to convert them to DNG in the first step of my workflow.
So, my DNG's are my originals, i don't use my NEF's
