    Hi Seb

I use HoudahGeo too but in CO preferences on the image tab check what your metadata setting is. Mine is set to full sync so I can set metadata before import or after import. I think you might want to try setting “Auto sync sidecar XMP†to Load which I believe does a load from the xmp file into CO. Then you should be able to delete the xmp file. Also consider the checkbox options. Please TEST this on a sample first. Also why do you want to delete the xmp files? You might want to migrate to another software package and then you have all your metadata outside of CO.

Thank you for the quick response. I went back and tested the different syncing modes, and under "full sync" I still lose the geotagging when XMPs are deleted.

As for why I want to delete the XMPs, well, that turns out to be a bad habit formed from a LR limitation. Ideally, at some point, I wanted to use XMPs for the very same reasons you describe, but LR would only write XMPs for RAW files and write metadata directly into non-RAW files, giving me a wish mash of how the data is stored. I never liked that, so I only used XMPs as a temporary way to transfer information from one piece of software to another. But C1 handles XMPs in a way that I prefer, writing the sidecars for every filetype. So in the end, thanks to you making me look more into it, I am going to start using XMPs full-time.

    Thanks again,

    -Seb
