No idea about the answer but whilst I could see a similar short term requirement I am somewhat put off that option by the one way nature of any file movements - 6 to 7 only. Moreover the idea of running the later version on the laptop is not something that makes much sense to me but that's a personal thing.

I'm not surprised by the need to upgrade hardware (in my case) nor that backwards compatibility is not possible - it rarely is. I'm just not at all sure that I would be happy working across the two versions in what seems to be a back to front allocation of resources that has been forced on me by hardware considerations.

Despite that I will be interested in the official answer - probably best directed at the sales guys though.

No solution from me either, but I that's also my concern.

I'd like to upgrade the version on my pc but need the second C1 6.4.1 installation on my 32bit XP laptop to be able to shoot tethered with my prehistoric equipment.

Had done that with C1 V5 and 6. Have upgraded to V6 but only registered on one PC. So run V5 on the one and V6 on the other. Later, when upgraded the hardware running V5 i registered V6 on that new PC. All was ok.

You should be able to activate CO6 with a CO7 key. In other words, when you upgrade your CO6 key to CO7, your old key becomes disabled. However, you can use the new key for both CO6 and 7. This way you can still use a 32-bit version of CO6 on your Home desktop while using CO7 on another system.

Your real challenge lies elsewhere. You can not exchange images + adjustments between CO6 and 7 back-and-forth. CO7 will read the CO6 adjustments, migrate them to another folder (Settings70 versus Settings50) which CO6 will not read.

    Thanks for the answer.

For me that's ok because the laptop is never used after the desktop PC.

I upgraded my license as soon as CO7 was announced.

    1) Installing CO 7 did not upgrade my CO6 installation (it copied the settings and recipes etc... though).

    2) My CO 6 still works (I can run both one after another on the same PC).

    3) I did not try to start the old CO6 installed on my laptop yet (yet to be tested how that will react).
