3.7.1 not working correctly tethered to a 1Ds and 1D Mark II
Images do not auto generate in the middle screen all the time. When you create a new session folder you have to close and restart the program in order for the images to pop up in the middle of the screen. This does work on 3.5 with the 1Ds
Also cropping is slow and jerky on screen. Moving crop around is very slow.

For All Users with Tethering Dilemmas:
The most basic test in Troubleshooting this issue is to verify if Tethering is successful with the Canon Capture software.
Yes = Capture One may be to blame OR No = Capture One is not to blame
If you have not, Please Read the v3.7.1 Release Notes:
Auto connect camera
After you launch Capture One, the application will try and auto connect your camera to see if it is connected to the computer. When you switch on your camera and the LCD screen is lit, the camera is in a special mode which prevents the operating system from connecting to the camera. You must quickly cancel this mode by either:
1. Quickly press the shutter half way down and release it again
2. Turn off the LCD screen
If Capture One does not auto connect your camera after this, reconnect manually via the “File | Reconnect camera†menu item.
Phase One recommends that you first switch on your camera and make sure the LCD screen is turned off before you launch Capture One.
Prevent capturing images if not properly connected
Most cameras can be setup so that you cannot release the shutter if you are not connected to Capture One or if a Media Reader is not present in your camera. This will prevent you from shooting images without being properly connected to Capture One and thus will prevent you from losing any images.
For the Canon 1Ds Mark II you can enable this function via:
• Custom Functions | Function No 2 | Shutter release without card : select \"Not Possibleâ€
Consult your Camera operating manual for specific details on how to enable this setting.
For successful tethering, All variables must be on the Same Page., i. e. The most recent version of Capture One 3.7.1; and the most recent camera Firmware upgrades, camera Drivers installed, and correct camera settings established.
Please Note: Windows XP has WIA Drivers, while Windows 2000 has TWAIN Drivers.

Well I've waited about a month before finally loading and testing 3.71 and it is as bad for tethered operation as 3.7. I also can not get it to automatically advance captured images unless I quit the program and restart it in the same session. Unlike 3.7 it will finally allow me to create sessions but what good is it to then have to close the program and restart. It also like 3.7 will not use the camera counter and starts each session with files numberd \"session name\"-000002.cr2. It also will not use the previouse white balance I've sellected. I had opened a support case on 3.7 about these issues and was assured thru that support case that these issues would be fixed in 3.71.....Not so....I have been waiting since ver 1.3 for phase one to get it right in tethered operation. There are a thousand things that photographers want in ver 4 but before phase one goes on they need to fix the basics in the software. All I'm asking is that it work like 1.3 does with my 1ds but in a ver I can use my 20D tethered.

Paul,
This will be handled through the Support Case you've created, but I can tell you the number of Cases involving problems tethering with a 20D to Capture One PRO Windows is near Zero. The few cases that are there, are resolved by drivers, camera settings, and basi Capture One settings.
As a User, I had my 20D tethered and doing everything it is supposed to and expected to within 15 minutes. Downloading the drivers took the longest.

Tried everything you mentioed and 3.7.1 is still quarky with the 1Ds tethered. Why no problems in 3.5.1?
I have the current Canon drivers loaded. 99% of the time you have to restart the program to get the images to popup in the middle of the screen. 1% of the time it works, why?0 -
fphoto4,
After so confidently posting the above to Paul, I too am getting some strange behavior with changing various settings on a 20D. What I had originally set, worked great, but now I see variablility. We are testing extensively with our Canons to see what Steps cause strange behavior.
Another User Offered this experience with her Canons:Actually, for our 1Ds cameras I did the opposite of the what the release notes said and turned Custom Function 02 to allow the camera to take pictures without a CF card and that's what worked. Our Mark II cameras worked before, no matter what setting they were on (provided firmware was updated).
Hopefully this will resolve your 1Ds problems, please let us know.
I will continue to work with Paul through a Support Case and post our findings here for all to observe.
Thanks to All for persistence on the tethering issues and sharing experiences.
Sincerely,

Turned on the custom function option and camera would not allow you to make an exposure without a CF card installed (1Ds) this is NOT a Mark II. Camera was tethered.0 -
We have been operationg serveral different Canon 1Ds and 1Ds MkII units with CaptureOne 3.7 and 3.7.1 on several different computers ever since 3.7 was launched.
When installing CaptureOne on a pc that has been used for other purposes (including extensive internet surfing, Photoshop work, etc.) the chance of getting it to work properly is considerably less than when installing on a pc with a fresh opsys install.
Our advice is to install Windows beginning with a reformat of your boot disk, then installing all necessary devices and service packs, then the full Canon complement of software that came with the camera, and finally CaptureOne. Testing of tethered shooting with the Canon sw. If this work ok, move on to testing with the CaptureOne sw. When following this procedure we have had a 100% sucess rate with CaptureOne.
Also, be aware that when installing the WIA (WinXP) drivers after Photoshop has been installed Photoshop automatically become the default capture program. Consequently PhotoShops pops up whenever you connect the camera. Unfortunately it is not sufficient to close PhotoShop to release the WIA driver so the camera can be used with other sw (Canons EOS Capture and CaptureOne).
In WinXP you need to do the following to disable PhotoShop as the default capture application;
1) Connect the camera to the PC and let PhotoShop start.
2) Go to Start\\Control Panel\\Scanners and Cameras
3) Right-click on the camera icon that should be found there and select Properties.
4) Change the default application to 'None'.
5) Reboot the computer
Now it should be possible to start CaptureOne and it should 'see' the camera automatically.
Please also observe that the WIA driver defines a default application for each camera that is connected. So, if you have several EOS cameras you have to follow the above procedure for each and every one of them.
