Auto Adjust in Exposure tool
After importing images with auto adjust, three of the 4 sliders in the Exposure tool are adjusted. Fine.
But then...
If you explicitly click on "reset", then all sliders are zeroed, then click on Auto Adjust, only the exposure slider is adjusted, not the others.
Why is that, what's the idea behind it?

I have just tried this with a new original variant of an image (a previously imported image).
I created the new unedited clone.
Used Auto Adjust and 3 of the exposure tool sliders were adjusted.
I then reset the variant to no Exposure adjustments.
Then used Auto Adjust again and got the same 3 sliders and adjustment values as before.
Sooooo.... in summary I got the same results from Auto Adjust and therefore am unable to conform your observation.
Which seems strange because I can't think of anything obvious that would explain the difference.
Using 8.0.2

Thanks Grant for the trying to reproduce it.
I tried it again, here my steps
- select a NEF file in the browser (unadjusted)
- press "New variant (F7)" from the context menu
- select the new variant and press "A" icon in Exposure tool
-> Only the Exposure slider moves
- Only if I select "Auto adjust" from the menu, the Exposure tool adjusts 3 sliders ("brightness" never moves)
- I tried the same with a NEF, CR2 ORF, JPG file, Same result, only one slider moves.
- Resetting the exposure tool, reset all adjustments via menu, and autoa djusting via "A", same result.
I am using 8.0.2.24 windows version. My OS is Windows 7 - 64 bit.
I am working on the background layer, no other layers defined.
I observed this only with the Exposure tool.
In the base characteristics, I have the respective camera ICC set, curve=Auto.
In the preferences, Exposure, I have set the defaults.
If there is no other idea, I think I should make a support case.
Thanks again.

Beo,
I observe that the auto tool, the "A" in the exposure tool is an "Auto Adjust Exposure" tool.
What's available from the Adjustment menu is an "Auto Adjustment" tool, with a much broader scope, with an option to include among other things white balance and high dynamic range.
Might this account for the perceived discrepancies?

Thanks, yes, the tooltip over the "A" says "Auto Adjust Exposure".
However, not only the Exposure slider but also the whole tool is called "Exposure". I expected the same behaviour as for example the "A" for the tool "HDR".
Put my expectation aside, but I don't see what benefit one would have if only the Exposure slider is auto-adjusted.
To use the Auto Adjust (for all exposure sliders) from the menu you'll have to exclcude all other tools from the Auto adjustments sub menu beforehand, this is not handy either.
To be honest, I suspect a bug, but this is a minor one, imho.
Cheers,

You are quite correct, if you go to the Adjustments -> Auto Adjustments and select Exposure only and then select Adjustments -> Auto Adjust (CtrL+L) you will find all Exposure Adjustments i.e. Exposure, Contrast, Saturation etc are auto-adjusted.
However, if you simply click "A" in the EXPOSURE tool tab ONLY Exposure is adjusted.
In My case I am only talking Windows.

Don,
I am also on Windows. Do you also see this having no benefit, or a bug respectively?

Edit: P.S. I opened a case just to let them know, should this be a bug.0 -

Hi,
Yes in the absence of a comment or explanation I suspect it is a bug. Glad you have opened a ticket.
