Do I lose CO Pro 5 if I upgrade to Pro 6 ?
I am worried that if I upgrade from CO Pro 5 to CO Pro 6, version 5 will be disabled and will stop running.
In other words, will I be able to run both versions on the same computer ?

you dont seem to. I have both running. 0 -
Based on my own experience, the upgrade process creates a new key which can then be used to activate both CO Pro 6 and 5. The old key is no longer usable. I am not sure if the COP 3 or 4 would still be activated using the new or the old key.
With both activated on a same partition of the same computer, it seemed to count as only 1 activation. In another word, one should be able to install and activate COP 5 and 6 again on a second computer.0 -
What is going to happen with the multi user license? We have the 5 user license agreement, I see nothing in the pricing for us. 0 -
If you have a multi user license which you wish to upgrade then contact a Phase One dealer for pricing and purchase info:

Thanks to the users who replied but I still wish I would get an "official" answer. 0 -

I don't think he did.
I don't have a multi-user licence. I have one licence for CO Pro 5 which I run on my desktop and on my laptop. My question is simple: can I run both 5 and 6 on my 2 computers or is CO Pro 6 going to disable CO Pro 5 (the way Microsoft disables the previous version when you upgrade) ?
Some people say they have both running but I still would like an official answer.0 -
You get an official and authoritative answer through a support case. This is primarily a user-to-user forum and your fellow users are not your main source to get a final answer on a license issues. You can discuss it here, no problem. But a support case with Phase One is the way to go. 0 -
Well, I submitted a support case on 25 December and got this official answer in the morning of 27 December:
"when you install Capture One 6 it will be default install in the same directory, so if you want to avoid this please change the directory to a different one or create a new one such as "Capture One 6".
This way you can have both versions on your computer. This is not a problem provided that you do not launch both at the same time.
You can always download an older version of Capture One here:
http://www.phaseone.com/en/Downloads/So ... veWin.aspx"
I never thought I would need to submit a support case for a question which is not technical but I am impressed that it was answered so quickly. Thanks, Phase One.0 -
In addition it might be nice to know that on Windows (in contrast to Mac), Capture One 3LE, 3Pro, 4, 5 and 6 all install in different folders by default and can be installed on a single computer. In this respect I respectfully disagree with the quoted support staff version.
Running 4, 5 or 6 concurrently does not work, separately it does. Again, on Windows, in contrast to Mac, preference files are separated for each version.
You might run into problems when you open images in CO5 which were adjusted with CO6 earlier. As far as I noticed, you still can go ahead in CO5, but it notifies you with an exclamation mark in the thumbnail IIRC because it can not read certain (v6) adjustments. CO6 can read all CO5 adjustments.0 -

Interesting...
By default my (Windows) installs went into separate folders ( 'Capture One 6' & 'Capture One 5' ) and thus both versions work fine.0 -

It is dated 8 March 2007. They must have changed their policy. I can use both CO Pro 5 and CO Pro 6 on the same machine. 0 -

But can you deactive and then reactivate the older product?
My thoughts after reading the article are that you can probably continue using the old version whilst it is still activated, but if you have to deactivate or reinstall on another machine etc. it will not allow you to reactivate it.
But as you say, it is dated 2007...0 -
I don't know and I'm not game to try ! I'll see what happens when I get a new computer. 0 -
I have similar problem, I have two licences, one for V4 and one for V5, the last one for ca 6 months:-(.
Bought Olympus E-5, which is not supported in V4 and 5 and there is no way to force PhaseOne to support the camera at least in the V5 (which was valid in the time of E-5 release),
So I have to upgrade to V6, (which is btw. often crashing and has a lot of other usability problems), but I want to keep preferrably the V4.8.3, which I love, but I am not sure, if i can transfer it to newer computer, when no activations are left ... (btw. does work only up to WXP, no W7)?
How to migrate older version to a new comp? If I deactivate the licence on one computer, can I activate it on another one, even when the licence management shows currently no activations left? (I am ffraid to loose then version with deactivating).
Or is somebody able to tweak the CO V6 E-5 profile for V4 or 5?-)
Thanks, regards0 -
I think you need to open a support case. I got an answer very promptly (though I'm surprised to see that the answer I got is in contradiction with Article ID 1575 you pointed me to !).
Support cases are not only for technical problems, as I discovered, they can also be sales related.0
