Open the .cr2 files in photo mechanic and then create an xmp sidecar file. That's if PM sees your C1 star ratings in the xmp file.

I just created an xmp sidecar file with a 5 star rating in C1 and opened it in Bridge and the 5 star rating is there.

When using Export Originals, with "Include Adjustments" checked, I'm given a pile of CR2s with no XMP sidecar files, so when I browse them with a program other than C1, all of my ratings have been lost.

You did not mention whether you work with a session or a catalog.

With a session, XMP sidecar files are created when you set the metadata settings in the program's Preferences to Full Sync.
With a catalog you do export as original (as you did) and next, you open the folder with images with a session as mentioned above.

    Dale-

The trouble is I've done all of my ratings in C1 as I shoot. At the end of a multi-day job, I've got 400 files with ratings in C1. Say I want to send only the 1-5 star images to my retoucher, and have my ratings show up. I create a smart album with all images with at least 1 star. Select all, Export Originals. Now I've got just the CR2's I need, to send along. Trouble is, I have no XMP sidecar so Bridge doesn't know if it was a 1 star, 5 star, etc.

Capture One does not write metadata back to the original files, so if I want that metadata to be read by another application, I need C1 to write the sidecar. And while C1 DOES create sidecar files if that's enabled in Preferences, it DOES NOT create those sidecar files when the "Export Originals" function is used. That's my issue.

    Paul-

I'm working with sessions. As I mention here, I have no problem creating XMP sidecar files during the capture session, and Bridge reads those just fine. It's only when I want to duplicate a subset of my CR2s to another folder (by using the "Export Orignals" function) that I run into trouble. In my capture folder, the CR2s all have XMP sidecars and life is good. In my new Export, I'm left with a folder of just CR2s, no XMPs. There is the "Include Adjustments" option, but that only seems to create the C1 .cos files, no XMPs.

The export function does indeed not create an XMP file.

But perhaps there is a much easier way: move your selection of images for the client to another folder, for example the Selects session folder. The XMP will go with the images. Send the contents of the Selects folder to your client. Move the images back to originating folder, if you wish.

    Paul,
That's indeed a good solution. Only trouble is, I have numerous Capture folders, and by using the Smart Album to create my collection of rated images, I'm spanning all of my capture folders. By moving them into Selects, I get my XMPs (good idea), but then I've got the logistical pain of re-filing hundreds of shots into their respective correct capture folder.

One workaround would be to duplicate the whole session, including capture folders, then move out what I need into Selects, then throw away the duplicate session. Just seems like an unnecessary workaround. I'm just a little frustrated that "Include Adjustments" doesn't read the C1 XMP Sidecar preference, and create those if it's enabled.

hold option key and move the images in the 1-5 star album to folder of your choice. Then you have a copy of the raws and the xmp files. No need to create duplicate session.

Dale - huh...never knew about that! Nice trick, and may work well for what I need, thanks! Still wish C1 did it via the expected way, but you've got a good workaround.
