Initial image import
I am a new user of C1, version 5.1. I have converted enough raw files from my Canon G11 to be convinced that C1 images are the most pleasant to my eye, and that I want to develop a workflow by carefully using C1 and its user manual and gradually come to understand its details.
So, please excuse me if I have misunderstood things or expect more from the documentation than is to be expected. The first of many questions I will raise is this: I want to have the Import dialog begin when I insert a flash card from my camera and I understand from experience but not from the manual that the program must be already running in order for this to occur. When I insert the card, the dialog starts, but when I click on the import button, nothing happens. I have discovered that because my camera puts the image files into folders, I really have to import, not from the card (meaning the 'volume') but from the individual folders within. Is this the intended behavior? One cannot tell by reading the manual! And the behavior of the application gives no message when there is nothing to import.
For me, my camera places each day's images in a separate folder, so this means I must do a separate import operation for each day's images on the card.
I can work with all this. but because I am at the beginning of a long learning process, I want to ask the forum members if I am correct in perceiving the C1 manual as providing only a general guide rater than a complete explanation. And whether my interpretation of the import process is correct. I would like to be able to import all the images on my card in one operation, even though they are to be found in several folders on the card.

Hi Bobg,
Welcome to the forum and the world of Capture One 5. I distilled multiple questions from your post, and will try to answer them.
First, there are two auto start mechanisms on connecting camera or memory card. The first is the start of CO5, which is controlled by Image Capture, a OS X program. For detailed instructions please specify your version of OS X. Second, starting the CO5 import dialog is controlled by the program's preferences.
How the CO5 import dialog handles multiple image folders on your card, I can not tell you due to lack of experience with such a configuration.
The manual is a start. More and very good instruction can be found online on Phase One website. You find the link in the CO5 Welcome screen. Start the Welcome screen from the Help menu.0 -
Thanks for directing me to Image Capture settings. I now have my system set to open Capture One upon mounting a flash card volume.
I remain puzzled by the way that the import process seems blocked by the fact that my flash card images are contained within folders/directories on the card. I will try it again...
And thank you for the welcome! I am still very impressed and gratified by the quality of the C1 conversions and look forward to learning all about the adjustment capabilities.0
