Could be in the process of regenerating previews?

Do you have OpenCL enabled? You should get iStat Pro widget which shows temperatures from all the sensors, and keep an eye on Activity Monitor to see what % capture one is using. It should really be low while not in use, so if it's showing high percentage as Meanwhile said it could be generating previews.

I tested 8.2 on new Mac Pro without any rise in temperature from the norm, the fans didn't even go higher than 700rpm...

Often opening up an old session in a new version requires the proxies to be re-rendered. You might just be experiencing that.

I was drawing a mask in an image that had some spot removal done to it. Mail and Safari were running/sitting in the background. I don't know if C1 was re-rendering my catalog while I worked. Maybe?

My OpenCL acceleration is set to Auto but I don't think C1 supports my hardware. I always assumed that my CPU was doing all the hard work.

I have a brand new rMBP (3 weeks old) with 16g of RAM and ever since 8.2, just browsing quickly through the viewer causes my MBP to overheat and the fans kick in big time.

Never happened with CO8 prior to 8.2.
