AMD Athlon64 system processes RAWs extremely slow
Hi,
I installed C1 3.7RC on my newly built Athlon64 3500+ system and converting RAWs to JPG (high setting) from my 1D MK II takes 50 seconds for each image. C1 is the only program running and it doesn't appear to make a difference when I disable virus scanning (McAffee) or shut down the other apps running in my system tray (Windows XP indexing service is not running either) or reboot.
I have seen posts in the rawworkflow.com's forums mentioning this really slow conversion in the past but it doesn't seem to do it for everyone. I have no idea why C1 is running so slow on this machine since all the benchmarks I've done on it show that it is running as fast as it should be for its configuration.
For reference my Dell Inspiron 600M laptop converts the same raw file in 66 seconds, but it is just a 1.4Ghz Pentium-M.
Here are my specs:
Athlon 64 3500+ (winchester core)
MSI K8N Neo4 Platinum motherboard
1 GB Corsair ram (DDR400)
BFG nVidia Geforce 6600 GT OC (PCI Express)
Windows XP Pro
Primary (boot) drive is a Maxtor 120GB & also have a 750GB RAID5 (4x 250GB drives connected to a 3Ware 7500-4LP controller)
thanks for any insight anyone can provide.

i figured out the problem. Setting the preview cache to my RAID5 array instead of the boot drive caused the slow down (whether it's related to the 3Ware RAID controller, C1, or a combination isn't clear although I have the latest drivers and firmware for the 3Ware RAID controller). When i reset the cache to my boot drive, conversion when down to 18 secs per image (16 secs using the pre-3.7 noise supression). 0
