In Preferences, General tab, switch off hardware acceleration (OpenCL) for display and restart CO7. Make sure you are up to date with CO7.

Thanks Paul. I'd forgotten to say that I'd already gone in and switched off OpenCL for display as I suspected that could be the issue, but the problem persisted. I've rebooted my Mac just to be on the safe. At the moment it seems ok after playing around for ten minutes. I'll continue to use C1 tonight and see if it happens again. Cheers.

Hi Paul - It's still doing it. Do I need to raise this with support?

Are these all from the same card?

Are they broken in other conversion software?

I'm thinking damaged/corrupt image files rather than Capture One problem.

Various cards from different cameras. The images are fine in other applications, Lightroom etc. The fact that images appear fine again after a restart of C1 would suggest it's some kind of graphics issue maybe. If you look at the last screenshot it's actually two different photos!

Also clicking around the thumbnails sometimes gets everything working again.

It is in the previews only, not the raw file. Parts of different image previews are mixed and some parts are scrambled.

Which version of CO7 are you running? It has been a prominent problem since 7.0 (on Mac at least, as far as I remember) but has been improved considerably later on.

If you are already on 7.2.2, I suggest you create a new session and move the images to the new session (if you are on sessions, not catalog).

    Thanks Paul. I'm running 7.2.2.

I don't use sessions though. I have one main catalog with all my Raw files stored in my photograph file structure in Finder.

Am I stuck with this issue?

Hopefully not. I suggest to do a verify on the catalog. You might also want to regenerate all previews (select all images, regenerate from file menu, restart CO7).
If all fails, open a support case.

FWIW some months ago I had a problem with a session that kept crashing.

After some time I noticed that one of the previews in the session had some corruption that was similar to the way yours looks. This was a file that, on screen in the browser (file name order), was nowhere near any of the files for which I had experienced a crash.

I tried re-creating the preview and it looked the same. No change at all. So I delete the edit file (not the original RAW) and all was well, the problem never recurred with that image or session. I have not seen such a problem again.

Now, a session has a master cross reference database just as a catalogue has and I think what had happened was that somehow ( I have no idea how) the internal file cross reference links in the session master file had mis-linked and that was causing the problem. I would assume that the same theoretical problem could occur in a catalogue database as well so you might wish to experiment with the same solution step - delete an obviously corrupt preview's edit if you cannot get the preview to rebuild correctly -and see what happens.

Having deleted the edit I re-created one for that file with no difficulty. Of course your problem could be more complex but the experiment has to be worth trying I would think.

    HTH.

Thanks to you both. I'll regenerate the previews first and see if that works. Then I'll take a look at your suggestion Grant.

Incidentally I did receive this error when verifying the catalog. It repairs ok but when I verify the catalog again after reopening C1, the database gives the same verification FAILED message.

Well I tried regenerating previews but it doesn't start. The Activities symbol briefly appears and there is no activity if I select Window > Activities.

    You have selected images first?

  • Robert Davis
Yes selected all images and then File > Regenerate Previews. Nothing happens. Tried restarting C1 too.

Ah, seems you have to have edit selected variants button activated? It's now working after doing that.

    Hi

I had similar issues with Capture One running on machines with, it seems, insufficient memory. Capture One struggled to run with 4 gig of ram on either dual core or quad core mac mini's and this was one of the symptoms.
I maxed out the ram to 8gig and 16gig and this and other issues disappeared.
Maybe you are suffering from a similar issue?

    cheers
    Nigel.

Yes Nigel my machine is not new, 2009 iMac, dual core with 8GB RAM. C1 actually runs pretty well on the whole in terms of speed.

I've regenerated previews and I guess now I will have to wait and see if this issue crops up again.

I have the same problem, without knowing why it suddenly appears and disappears in the same way. I had already reported that, in a former post.

Always to good to know I'm not on my own with these things!

Your psychedelic photo looks like some of mine 😉

It was an example, I have other "grounds" 😉
