4.5 Pro Keyboard Shortcuts
Although I like being able to edit the keyboard shortcuts, the main shortcuts that were THE MOST helpful in C1 3.7 is using the control, shift, control-shift combined with the up and down arrows to adjust the Exposure, color temp, contrast, etc. ( I also assigned those commands to my mouse wheel.)
Am I missing something, or is there no way to assign say control-up_arrow to adjust the exposure?
I don't want to have to move the mouse over the control to adjust it. I want the keyboard to control which parameter I want to adjust.
Having to move the mouse for anything REALLY slows down the workflow.
PLEASE C1, add shortcuts to activate the adjustment sliders!

I am constantly astounded on the continual boneheaded decisions being made by Phase. First they take away basic useful features in what is supposed to be an UPGRADE.
One upgrade later and they've already abandoned support for their previous settings files. It would appear that they're trying to make an attempt at the image management
market with these new features (Library/Albums). How can I trust you guys for archival purposes if you keep dropping basic things like this? Everyone complained about missing keyboard shortcuts.
I had thought this was their answer in allowing customized keyboard shortcuts. They even include a 3.7 preset. However there's only 6 whole functions!! What was the point of
allowing customized shortcuts if you don't allow basic image adjustments which was what everyone wanted??0 -
I am surprised that more people don't care about Phase One leaving out the most important keyboard shortcuts.
Maybe they should make whoever designed the interface try correcting 2000 images. They would learn a lot about workflow and speed and the importance of minimizing mouse use.
Of course, Lightroom doesn't have it either even in version 2! That's why I never switched to Lightroom.
Oh well, I guess I might as well switch to Lightroom now. At least I can sort of do it with Autohotkey in Lightroom. For some reason, AutoHotKey does not work with C1 Pro 4.5.

FYI, I was able to write a script for AutoHotKey that gives me back my beloved C1 3.7 keyboard shortcuts for the adjustment sliders. Yay! đ
It's not nearly as fast as the built-in keyboard short cuts like C1 3.7, but at least they work!
For PC users only, you can download and install AutoHotKey from http://www.autohotkey.com (it's free)
Then using your favorite text editor, create a .ahk script file with the following text:
;This script is copyright 2008 by Darin Fong Photography, info@darinfong.com
;Please do not redistribute or sell this script.
;Enjoy!
SetTitleMatchMode, 2
#HotkeyInterval 1000 ; This is the default value (milliseconds).

Oh yeah, before you run the script, you have to have a mouse with a mouse wheel.
After you run the script, here's the way it works:
(You have to be on the "Quick" tab or ctrl-3 first)
Hold the appropriate modifier key and scroll your mouse wheel up and down to change the value of that slider:
control key - Exposure
shift key - Color Temp.
control and shift key - Tint
Windows key - contrast
alt key - brightness
This probably doesn't make sense until you try it.
Good luck!

This is totally perfectly awesome! Thanks Darin! 0 -
Just a quick note.
I realize now that the ID's of the various sliders change based on the way you have the controls arranged.
So, the script I wrote will only work if you have the controls in the Quick tab in their default arrangement.
Once you "undock" or reorder the controls, my script will not work.
For those of you that can figure out AutoHotKey, you can use their "Window Spy" tool to get the correct ID's based on YOUR control layout and substitute those values in my script.
So, if my script seems to control the wrong sliders, then you probably moved the controls from their default position.

I miss these shortcuts too, and the CTRL+T to tag and the Group Tagged... Having to click all the time with the mouse is way too time consuming. âšī¸0 -

workaround: press "5" instead of CTRL+T - image will be rated with 5 stars. Then sort by rating.

I am missing the shortcuts too. Actually I can not and do not wand to use v.4 for this reason. I have X-keys keypad which I use to quickly adjust exposure, contrast, white balance. I really do not understand why this functionality was removed. If you process one or five pictures here and there then it is fine, but if you go each day through hundreds or thousands then it is really pain in the ass to use the mouse.
So for now, I am going back to v 3.7. I hope this issue will be solved by Phase One.
Actually does anybody know what is the reason that this shortcuts are missing in new version?

I have been complaining to Phase One ever since C14LE came out. I was actually told that this would be fixed in v4Pro at one time. I put in a ticket with Phase One about this missing functionality this morning. The tech first told me I basically told me I did not know how to use their software so I said great, how do I do these things. He replied that there was no way in the new software to do this. Great upgrade. What even pi$$e$ me off more is the latest RawNews+ I receive today and the CEO boasting how the new 4 PRo has all the same workflow at 3.x along with the new features. Does anyone at Phase One even know what their software does? It is obvious they don't use it very much. 0 -

Hi, Dan.
After dowloading the C1Pro4.5 Demo, I was absolutely GOBSMACKED at the omission of the keyboard shortcuts for adjusting exposure etc. As a wedding photographer, the two primary attractions of C1Pro 3.7.x were the "film like" image quality AND the speedy workflow (CTL +, SHIFT --, ALT ++, Next, etc.).
Processing 500-1000 files using Nikon Capture NX would take me around a week, as opposed to 1-2 HOURS with C1Pro! Unfortunately, 3.7 doesn't support my new D700, so I guess an upgrade is in order, although I may look at other options now!
It does make one wonder at the developement process/rationale behind the new "upgrade"!
Regards.

I miss the quickkeys also. But the scroll key on your mouse will adjust any slider adjustment in C1 4.5 if you hover the mouse cursor over the slider & scroll the mouse wheel. I found this function on page 106 of their manual. 0 -

The problem is, you have to concentrate on the slider to make sure the mouse stays over it as you make the adjustment. Plus it takes extra effort to move the mouse to it in the first place.
Keys don't move, they are always under the same fingers and can be located by touch while your eyes are on focused on the image being adjusted.
It seems nearly all software designers these days, not just Phase One, are forgetting the speed granted by short cut keys. User interfaces are headed toward being all clicky widgets. That really hurts performance and because it requires hand/eye interaction can never be trained into muscle memory or tactile response.0 -
Nice to have them back. REally sad that Phase One could not do this in their code. 0 -
I to am really disappointed with the lack of quick keyboard shortcuts.
I work for a printing company specializing in Real Estate and process between 2000 to 2500 files a week for 14 photographers. Using an Intuos tablet with 3.7 I don't even need a keyboard, just the express keys and strips.
I have been playing with 4 for the last couple of days and have found a half baked work around. I have setup a custom tool layout with WB, Exposure, Sharpness ect. Closing all but WB and Exposure if you click anywhere on a panel the + - keys move the control the same amount as the old keys. Tab and Shift+Tab move you through the functions, one keystroke puts the Cursor into the control for numeric entry and a second stroke activates the + - keys. Shift + - moves between files. Closing infrequently used blocks reduces the number of Tabs needed to move between tools. It works reasonably well but you need to keep an eye on the pallets to make sure your in the right place, which slows down the workflow.
Also, as about half of the files I edit have white walls I have worked out a system of editing exposure based on the quarter tone and would like to be able to stretch the Histogram in the vertical axis. The hight of the Histogram in 3.7 makes it much easier to read.
A couple of questions:
1/ Is there any way to set a default Saturation value as in 3.7?
2/ Is there any way to set a tab or Favorite to watch folders without also creating a session? When a Session is created as soon as I move files to the Move to... folder I get a "ghost" file, ie the filename and a question mark, not to mention the Capture One folder that gets put into the watched folder. I know I can use System Folders but I have 10 Connected Network drives and a list of about 15 Network Places, and would need to create 8 new Network Places making for a very untidy list.
3/ Is there a way to create a Process recipe where the recipe is tied to a particular folder? My outputs are always the same size and format, but I need to output to 10 different folders. Something similar to the Recently Used Folders in 3.7 would be great. I know about the Explorer button, but it's not the same.
With 3.7. I can have a file in the Process queue in about 10 seconds, 15 tops. I estimate that using 4 this will extend to 20+ seconds. On an average day of 450 files that means I loose at least 75 minutes, probably more like 90, a totally unacceptable result.
While I like the extra tools, particularly H&S and Skintone, Capture One's particular strength for my application has been it's combination of image quality and throughput speed, particularly in a production environment.
In trying to compete with Aperture and Lightroom Phase has tacked on a half-baked DAM package while loosing sight of some of the basics functions which made it a truly great editing application.

Terry0 -

I've just realised that it's not the +/- keys, but either left/right or up/dow keys that need to be used.

Hello,
right now i'm just "playing around" with the new 4PRO-version, and found a smaller bug:
Rating pictures by pressing the "0" - "5" is fine while viewing thumbnails in "Grid View".
When you change to "List View" the rating-keys do not work anymore...
Is there any reason why??
I'm using the Mac-Version. Maybe it works on Windows?!
Regards,
Sebastian
PS: I'm german. So please be pacient ragarding to my bad english... ;.-)0 -

It works fine in Windows version running on an XP system. I also replayed on a Mac, and confirm your findings. A workaround is to set rating from the Adjustments menu while in List View.0
