Canon 5Ds
cant connect the new Canon 5Ds, there is an "can's connect Camera" error, when do you support the camera?

Capture One Pro 8.3 is the first version to offer "preliminary file support" for 5ds camera systems - so make sure you are on the latest version.
Beyond that, this is a user to user forum so you'll need to create an actual support request to get a response from the Phase One development team.

"Preliminary support" doesn't generally mean tethering support; and Phase One does not pre-announce camera support. 0 -
Unfortunately we only have file support and I will not be able to give you a timeline on when tethered shooting will be available. I will however add your request to R&D. 0 -

I assume that you are quoting an official Capture One supporter response with that post?

Apart from that you need to direct your question to Phase One directly, as already explained, your current workaround is to use EOS Utility or similar Canon tool and use the Hot Folder feature of Capture One.
Canon first need to make the software for tethering available to 3rd party developers like Phase One. Next, Phase One will incorporate it into Capture One. Both stages of the process will take some time. No one can give you an ETA, but a few month is not unreasonable (=expectation management).
Enjoy your 5DS in the mean time. You know now what it means to be an early adopter of a camera with a 3rd party software tool... 😉0 -
I'm really surprised that the software needed to be updated even for simple file support since the 5DSR still uses the canon .CR2 format.
Thankfully the files are supported with 8.3. I had a scare for a moment. I guess I'll have to configure the hot folder option and add myself to the support request list.0 -

File support is not related to the file extension .CR2. Each raw file (or .NEF and so on) of each camera model is unique and needs the full profiling treat.0 -

Paul,
Your forum post in 2012 helped me out:

Is there a similar solution in this situation? The current folder hierarchy in CO8.3 is slightly different than in your previous tutorial, but the 5Ds/R does include the SDK in the software disks.0 -

I have seen one report from a user who did the SDK surgery and was successfully tethering his 5Ds.
Indeed, since CO 8.3 the path has changed.CO8 > Contents > XPCServices > CaptureCoreServices.xpc > Contents > Frameworks > CaptureCore > Canon > ED-SDK > SDSDK.framework

I'm happy to report successful tethering with my 5DsR. Here is the path to the new source SDK: Applications/Canon Utilities/EOS Utility/EU3/EOS Utility 3.app (show contents)/Contents/Frameworks/EDSDK.framework(show contents)/Versions/A

for some it seems to work, you can try...
1. clean install c1
2. use the auto SDK updater file here ; https://captureintegration.com/capture- ... ng-update/
3. trash old files at users>shared>capture one>Capturecore>Canon> (trash old camera profiles )
the third step was a guess I made, however, until i did this i found the connection kept on dropping and was not able to process more than 1 RAW shot before disconnect.
with a little testing and a far amount more insight I am sure the guys at Phase could develop a stable solution too soon...
UPDATE : still crashing... but seems less frequent since step 3. Working better on jpeg than RAW, which may suggest transfer rate issue. ( although I am on latest macbookpro with new tethertools USB 3.0 cord)
UPDATE 2: Crashing seems to be a a transfer issue with my "tether tools USB cord".... this cord although meant to be fast maybe too long or faulty. I went back to the extremely short cable supplied with the cable and found the above the install process stable.0 -
This step by step worked for me:
