Export folder or album as catalogue. No previews included?
Hello,
I recently generated a new and complete catalogue with all my images on a new PC, images all referenced (stored on a large hard disk).
I like to work on images on my laptop away from the desk, and for that I want to export a part of the catalogue (a folder or an album) as a separate catalogue, including all adjustments, but preferably not the originals to keep the size managable. I want to store that separate catalogue on an external SSD that I connect to the laptop, work on the images (rating, selecting, deleting, editing, but not outputting), then connect the SSD to the main PC, import the separate catalogue into the main catalogue, and thus update it.
But: I cannot find a way to export the folder or album as a separate catalogue and include the previews. So when I open the separate catalogue on my laptop, all the thumbnails show an empty question mark: images offline, and no previews to be shown. That the images are offline, is intended and no problem. But that there are no previews available, makes the whole workfow useless.
What is the advised workflow here? I can work around the issue by exporting the separate catalogue to a place on the PC, open it from there and let CO1 generate the previews, but my sense of logic tells me that I am missing the obvious way: export the separate catalogue including previews.
How is this done?
Thanks
Chris

Some experimenting, and I can answer (part) of my own question: when generating previews in an exported catalogue on my PC, and then moving the catalogue to the external disk to hook up to my laptop, I need the originals included in the catalogue folder, or otherwise e.g. cropped images cannot be zoomed out again on the laptop. So it seems that an obligatory part of exporting parts of a main catalogue as a separate catalogue to work on at another place (another computer), one either needs access to the location of original images, or otherwise the originals should be included in the export, and in both cases the previews have to be generated from scratch when first opening the exported catalogue.

Chris,
If the catalog contains previews made on system A, and you move that catalog to system B which have different preview size setting in Preferences, the previews might get generated again. This requires the originals to be accessible.0 -

Thanks Paul,
I can see the logic behind exporting only the adjustments and not the previews. B.t.w.: I noticed that you cannot rename images in an exported catalogue, even when you have included the originals in the export. I guess this is done to avoid having the same originals with different names in the exported catalogue and the master catalogue. But it would be nice if the name changes could also be re-imported into the master catalogue, just like the updated adjustments or ratings.
The way it is now, you can only edit image names when you are in the master catalogue. That is not very practical: when I'm working on an exported (part) of my catalogue on my laptop, I have to remember which image names I want to edit, and do that later on, when I'm at my PC and have access to the master catalogue.
Is this something that you have run across?
