starting with catalogue

I've been using Capture One for a few years, exclusively using sessions. I want to start building a catalogue for my images and I'm curious about how you approach that task. Should I import only my Selects (but then if move a photo from Capture to Selects when working in a session it won't show up in the catalogue), or should I import all Captures and Selects and rate the selects so that I can create Smart Albums, etc.

At the moment, my selects are my select favorite images. Should I import only selects, but use a star rating system and add more images (that I like, but aren't my best works) from the capture folder to the selects (building a larger catalogue of not every image, but images that are good to great, but not everything that wasn't a straight reject?

What is your approach?
