The time zone is not in the metadata of CO8. How does Aperture determine the time zone or is it given by the user?

    Hello Paul,

    Thank you for your answer.

I've done some investigations and it appears that Exif matadata doesn't use time zone whereas IPTC and XMP metadata have provision for times with time zone. Unfortunately most cameras use Exif metadata to store the pictures dates. I plan to "manually" create IPTC and XMP metadata on a test picture and to import it in a CO8 catalog, but as you said that CO8 metadata don't have time zone I don't have much hope to recover this information.

Regarding Aperture, the import dialog allows the user to specify the time zone of the camera. After import, this information is stored in Aperture metadata and picture dates are displayed with a time zone. I found this very convenient as I have photos taken from different locations around the world.

Also, Aperture allows the user to adjust the creation date. I use it a lot as I merge pictures from different cameras in the same catalog, and two cameras have seldom accurately synchronized clocks. The default action is to adjust only the Aperture metadata, but as an option you may write back to the original picture the adjusted time. Do you know if time adjustment is available in CO8?
