Output sharpening for printing

Good question. I wondered this myself and asked the question of David Grover in the webinar today - i.e. why aren't the output-for-print sharpening options available within the Print Dialog box for Capture One - rather than just within the process recipes. Apparently they haven't got round to it yet - or at least that's my interpretation of what he said. But it does seem very odd that you can use these useful sharpening and proofing options for printing outside of COP, but not from within. Hopefully they will add this in the next update!

I don't think it would be that odd Paul.

Few people that I know do their own printing - especially larger sizes.

Using an external service is usually less expensive or offers better quality printing than most people are likely to aspire to themselves.

So making the facility available for files intended for printing elsewhere as a first introduction of the facility makes sense.

    IMO.

    Thanks for your response Paul.

It seems at the same time as my OP there was the same topic in "Workflow and Common Photography Exploration" of this forum

I also hope they implement the same print output sharpening in the printer dialogue. And soon.

As an experiment I set the POS parameters and exported a BW image as a TIFF. Loaded the TIFF in COP and printed with the current printer dialogue sharpening set to "0" (I normally have it set within "20" to"30"). The result was very good and possibly with slight edge over same image printed at "30".

I notice the webinar has been published. Will check it out this evening.

Thanks for the info Peter. I'll try that workaround.

I've always thought printing has always been a bit of a weakness in COP, and this latest update hasn't changed that. The print dialog box is rather awkward to use. Perhaps Grant is right and they think few of us are printing for ourselves thses days.
