Artifacts In Zoom Tool

    MikeR,

Assuming you are refering to the zoom of Preview, it will break-up with zoom and will be improved in future version. The Focus tool is the best way to analyze image quality, not the Preview. The Focus Display window does indeed develop that area selected from the RAW file. So again, this is the tool to use for critically viewing image areas.

It is the Focus tool (on the Mac). When I am at 100% (1:1), the slider all the way to the left. I see artifacts on a black background when I am shooting artwork.. When I convert the file to use in Photoshop I dont see them. Just curious if the RAW file had the artifacts or if the Focus tool was creating them. Also, when I move the Focus tool between screens I see more artifacts on one (Eizo Monitor) then on the other (Apple Monitor).

    MikeR,

I think you hit it with your last line... difference form 1 monitor to another. We certainly see situations involving banding or moire being displayed by a monitor (even in Focus Utility ) but it is not there upon processing or printing.
I suppose the same can occur with artifacts / noise.

Also try the Noise and Color Noise Suppression sliders to check improvements in the Focus Utility and in processed and printed images.

Thanks. After I looked at it a bit more I started to get to what was really happening. Do you know who will be on the Road Show event coming to Indianapolis (if Indianapolis still makes it)?

    MikeR,

The US RoadShow 2006 will arrive in Indianapolis September 12 and the Details are To Be Determined so keep checking web site.
Most likely will be VP US Sales Kevin Raber, and Central Area Manager Brian Horen, and maybe even a Techie 😉

    Cheers,
