D300 under exposed NEF Files.
Please can you help? I have bought the Nikon D300 and when I open the NEF files into Capture one pro 3.7.8 they change exposure & whitebalnce. My Color management settings are correct and my monitor is calabrated!
I had the same problem with my D80.
Is this normal or can I tweak Capture one ?
Please help

The exposure and color balance get changed from what? 0 -
Sorry !
They go darker than how they originally looked when taken?
I have had this problem with other Raw software though?0 -
I'm finding the same thing.
The exposure changes from the thumbnail as capture one processes the raw to create its own thumbnail.
I suspect the problem is related to active d-lighting as this appears to underexpose the image so that capture nx can then apply the active d-lighting alogrithm to extend the DR.
Try switching active d-lighting off and see if that makes any difference.0 -
I'm still not sure what you are judging. Are you judging based on what you see in the LCD screen on the camera?
I'm fairly sure that it has nothing to do with the active d-lighting. I own a D3 and use that setting a lot. I have yet to see any problems from that use. In fact, I think that there are sometimes significant improvements.
Some of the time I use an incident light meter. Some of the time I rely on TTL metering. In either case I usually get quite good exposures.
I do see that as C1 brings the thumbs in that they are initially brighter and they do darken when all the files have been loaded. But the final thumbs and the larger images and well exposed--not overly dark at all.
Having said that, if I use C1's auto adjust (CNTRL-SHIFT F) many files are improved. But the improvement involves a number of parameters, such as exposure, brightness and contrast. One of the main advantages of shooting RAW and then refining the files in a program such as C1 is that there is more power and sophistication available in a computer than in a D3.

It still doesn't answer my query. Why does Capture one pro make my raw files darker when I open them up?
They are exposed correctly on my camera LCD and on my PC when viewed with microsoft raw image viewer?
Is there a way of stopping Capture one pro from doing this?

How are you judging them on your LCD? You know that the LCD can be adjusted for brightness, so the appearance in the LCD is not a reliable reference. 0 -
The brightness on the LCD has been set correctly. The camera or my ability to expose a shot correctly is not an issue, the problem is with Capture one pro changing the exposure and white balance of my pictures when transfered into the software.
It may perform ok with a D3 but I have had problems with my D300 and my D80.
If anyone would like me to send them an NEF file then let me know.0 -
confused post now deleted...never mind 0 -
Just updated to 3.7.9 on Mac OS hoping that this has been resolved.
I too am having this issue...to clarify:
Images from D300 exposed properly, look great on camera LCD. Imported to C1 initially look good (thumbnails) but then within 1 sec or so, are automatically adjusted darker. This does not happen with our D200 cameras.
Importing the same images into Apple Aperture or Adobe Lightroom, images are fine, and no adjustments are made. Only with C1 is this occurring.
I have tried changing the import profile to D200 from the D300 generic but no luck. It seems to me its a problem with the D300 generic profile. It can be corrected by adjusting exposure, on average +1.0 EV adjustment.0
