Yes, there is a way to keep the grid on. It is a two way step.

First, in the Preferences, Crop tab, Grid section, set Show to When Grid and Guides On. Close Preferences.
Second, in the program set Grid and Guides on (View menu or Cmd+G).

Note that the Guides show up as well. You can clear the Guides via View menu > Customize Grid and Guides > Reset Guides.

    Hey Paul,

Thanks for the response! The grid you mentioned seems to be for framing, but I was wondering about the green grid that automatically appears with with rotation and keystone sliders. The preview on my latest MacBook Pro (2.9 i9 w/ Vega 20) is too choppy to do any kind of critical adjustments with the sliders and I would prefer to adjust by arrow keys but I would need the grid to be on.

Thanks to Steve over at Capture Integration I finally figured it out. I was confused with the grid in the settings being used for composition with arrangements such as rectangular, center cross, golden ratio, etc, and the grid that auto appears for rotate/keystone. I feel they should be separate features as they are in Lightroom, but changing the number of rows and columns works.
