Automatically add custom metadata to tethered captures
Ran into a problem with metadata, not sure if it's me or the software.
When importing images it's possible to set Copyright information using the import dialogue and have it applied to all files. We wanted to do the same thing in a tethered session as the files came in.
We added custom metadata into the copyright and description fields of an image. We expected that using the 'Copy from last' setting, any new images that were sent from the camera would have the custom metadata appended, just like curves or colour adjustments. However, the metadata would not appear and had to be applied manually.
Trying it on a PC now, I can copy the metadata to all selected variants using the little double headed diagonal arrow at the top right of the metadata palette. However, I cannot copy and apply the adjustments using the ctrl-shift-C / V shortcuts to copy and apply adjustments.
Is this a limit of the software, or is there a setting that needs to be applied before it will work? Is there any other way to apply metadata information automatically to files in a tethered session?
We were on 7.1.2 on the Mac. Using 7.2 on the PC.

There are several ways to copy/apply adjustments to images in CO7, like you mentioned: tethering (copy form last etc.), importing, copy adjustments.
The different methods work for all adjustments except a few. Metadata is one of them. The reason is that this is not a visible adjustment and keywords or rating should not be accidentally applied to a series of images.
To copy/apply metadata you can use the double arrow of the metadata tool. You can also use the generic copy/apply of the adjustments clipboard (Cmd+Shft+C / +V) but you have to set the checkbox at the clipboard on purpose for the respective items after the copy command, before the apply command.
Regarding tethering/copy from last, it is not sure whether this is intentional NOT copying or not from a previous image. I reported this to Phase One in the past, so maybe this is still in the pipeline for a change...
Tip: create a style or preset with your copyright information and apply it to all your images during import or afterwards.0 -
Nice one, thanks, that's all very helpful. 0
