C1 8.3.4/ 9.0.1 & OS X 10.10.5 / 10.11.2 (Yosemite or ElCap)
Re-bringing this topic up to find out the latest:
Wondering what the general consensus is currently with which C1 version is best to run with, and in combination of which Mac OS? (as of Thurs 31st December, 2015).
Capture One 8.3.4 / Capture One 9.0.1 with OS X 10.10.5 (Yosemite) / or OS X 10.11.2 (El Capitan)
I'm currently still running OS X 10.10.5 (latest/last Yosemite)...c1 8.3.4 seems relatively rock solid. I've also installed and lightly tested 9.0.1 but have never ran a full, live, working day on it yet.
I understand and normally prescribe by the old attitude of "don't fix what's not broken", but I work on set as Digi Tech and so my predicament falls between 1) keeping up to date with updates / bug fixes / work flows VS 2) keeping a system that is largely stable. I'm freelance, working for a few different photographers, so my computer will need to work and tether with all major pro-camera systems (Nikon, Canon, Phase etc).
I can't keep running v8 forever as photographers slowly move their personal systems and workflows over to v9. But I also can't leap too early to v9, leaving photographers unable to open their Sessions...(I do however have and use both).
But what are people's experience using C1 9.0.1 on El Capitan? Is it stable? Do we still have memory leaks? Do all camera systems tether well on OS X 10.11.2? Or are people still experiencing problems... And are there people out there using C1 8 on El Capitan? Is THAT working well or has support fallen off with v9 now in the frame? Are both versions playing nicely with El Cap? Should I hold off updating my OS? What combination of systems are people using?
P.S. side note:
I don't ever remember going through this with past versions of C1 and OS. Maybe in future Phase shouldn't really be looking to drop new Version updates so close to the OS? Maybe they should stagger, to minimise teething issues?

As a Windows user I have no interest whatsover in Phase tying their development and release cycles in to match whatever Apple decide to do or not do with their product releases.
Based on following this Mac centric forum for a few years I can't see that Phase can do much different to what they do now. If they don't dive in to adopt the latest Apply tech whims people complain.
If they do, people complain.
If they do and the tech is not quite ready for market people complain loudly no matter where the weakness may lie.
It's not so different in Windows world - which of course is also moving along all the time.
It must be really stressful being a developer in the so called "agile" age. The only thing worse than having to develop for both Mac and Windows at the same time would be if someone threw Linux into the pot too.0 -
Daryl,
I'm surprised that no one took up this question, this is usually something everyone has a strong opinion on 😉
FWIW, I've been running capture stations in a heavy production environment, 5-7k captures per day, using 8.3.1 on 10.9.5 for a year and it is very stable.
cheers,
