Hi LarryL: What you describe is exactley what happens to me. But what happens on my machines also is when CaptureOne is able to get a connection to my Nikon and (!) is also able to release the camera and (!) transfer the data to the mac, the picture shows up normal on the screen, but after one second the file it is totally destroyed. It is only showing black and magenata squares.

And we are waiting for a solution…

And after installing the new firmware from Canon the problem is not solved! Even with the Capture One closed Osx 10.6.8 and Eos Utility not work! After 10-15 minutes in live view the program freezes!

Sorry to hear that Marios. Since your last post (and my reply) the assumption has occurred that the OS X 10.6.8 update caused this error. However, mainly Nikon shooters are affected. An CO6 update is planned; hopefully you will benefit as well.

You might either way file a support case with Phase One if you like more details or look for other directions to solve the issue.

    Thanks for your response.
    And I think the problem is in collaboration Osx 10.6.8 and EOS Utility. Do you know if the Apple and Canon will issue an update to solve the problem;
    Thanks!

To early to talk about updates as long as the problem is not clear. I do not have problems with a similar setup.

To look into your setup, you can a few things yourself. First, connect your Canon, switch it on and start System Profiler (Utilities folder). Look in the USB section whether a Canon Digital Camera shows up (use Cmd+R to refresh the display if necessary).

If you see your Canon here, check EOS Utility: latest version is 2.10.1. A must have update.
If you don't see your Canon here, your hardware or OS X setup needs attention. Details in the next round. 😉

OK Marios, that looks very nice indeed. 😉

A tip: it seems that you have the Canon camera connected through a intermediate USB device (USB hub). Could you connect the camera directly to your Mac's USB port and see whether that does improve connectivity with both EOS Utility and Capture One Pro?

Second, if still no connection for tethering, you might do a Repair Permissions with Disk Utility. Are you familiar with the tool? And check tethering again.

Ok Paul, i will check it (it is a usb cable 5m with repeater)
I did repair permissions 3-4 times!

    Α question about the cable:
I have connected in succession, 2 separate cables 5 meters each, which have repeaters.
There may be blame for all the two repeaters? 😁

Could work, should work. But when in the process of troubleshooting it is best to go back to basics and start from there. In other words, it would be worth a try to connect with a different, short cable (30 cm to 2 meter max.) without repeater and see whether that helps.

In a trial-and-error approach one tries to find the cause by eliminating potential causes one at a time.

    Good luck.

It seems to be a USB issue... I was shooting today with both Nikon D3 tethered via USB and Phase P25 tethered via firewire and only the Nikon USB gave me the Assertion Failed dialog. It only comes up when pausing from shooting (not firing for 20 sec) then the whole program freezes with the spinning color wheel and a force quit is necessary.
Didn't matter whether the cable was 30m long with 2 repeaters or the short 1m Nikon cable directly attached to the computer... it was all Assertion Failed!

This issue is acknowledges as a combination of Nikon tethering to Capture One Pro on OS X 10.6.8 (I assume you are on 10.6.8). Phase One is working on an update.

Just had a vicious day with this error, eventually the camera wouldn't connected at all (Nikon D3x). Spent ten minutes with the client waiting while I made new sessions, quit, restarted Capture One Pro, plugged, unplugged, rebooted, and eventually the client just had to look at the images in the back of the camera. Quite embarrassing.

I do have a P45+ and don't have issues with it. But my Nikon and Capture One Pro, really didn't like each other today.

Capture One Pro v6.2 Build 49048
    Mac OSX 10.8.0 Intel i7 2.66Ghz
    Nikon Firmware v1.0

Really hope this gets fixed soon as my client was really not impressed with looking in the back of the camera.

6.2.2 has fixed the Assertion FAIL error I was getting with Nikon D3 when running 10.6.8.

In general I find that if I disconnect - log out of the user - log back in - connect usb - start C1 - I get connection.

Make sure that image capture app isnt trying to connect another app to your camera.

More info would be helpful, if you need any help. I suggest to start a fresh new thread as this one is a year old and we are on newer versions of software now.
