.cop previews in RAW folders

Hi,

I noticed today that the .cop preview files COP makes are being stored in a folder next to the RAW images. It appears that this only started since COP 10; previously these would have been stored in the COP Catalog.

Is there any way to make COP 10 put these .cop files into the Catalog file i.s.o. next to the RAW files? It used to be a great functionality not having to have your complete RAW library of files with you, yet still being able to browse it based on the .cop files.

    Make sure you're in a catalog. C1 has always stored its previews in a folder next to the raws when in session mode.

    I've observed this happens if you move photos between folders, even when using a catalog. For example, I wanted to isolate only the selects from a rather large folder (>5000 images) that was imported into the catalog. So I created a sub-folder to contain only the selects and moved them to that new subfolder. The "Capture One" folder containing the .cop files was created when I moved the selects.

    Doesn't make sense. I thought the "Capture One" folder was only related to sessions. What's going on?

    Well, colour me surprised.

    I have no clue what is going on. Best way to find out is to raise a support case via the website.

    HCS, thanks for the info.

    I'm almost 100% sure I was in the Catalog, I was importing new images into it which I had stored already in the appropriate folder on disk. I did check however if the Catalog also contained the .cop previews of the same images and it did. So it seem the previews are made twice now???

    Anybody similar experience?

    Had you perhaps looked at the images in a session before you imported them?

    From your description I assume they are referenced files - is that the case?

    No session view before, nope.

    Yes, images are referenced. I never copy them into the Catalog for several reasons, e.g. keeping the Catalog on my laptop so I can view offline, while storing the images external.

    Does the date of creation of the files offer any clue to their origin?

    Don't understand what you expect to gain from that. I had non-recent images which I moved into the right folders on disk, then "synchronized" the existing Catalog folder (i.e. import). That's when the Capture One folder with .cop files was created (first time ever).

    Seem to have found the source of the problem. Although I imported the images working from the Catalog, after doing so, C1P switches automatically to Sessions. I didn't notice and did a Batch Rename which created another set of previews next to the RAW images on disk. I think this is different behaviour in C1P version 10. I don't remember this problem from version 9.

    It's weird that a Batch Rename would do this, but in hindsight it seems HCS was right 🤭

    Not sure what you mean by this. When I noticed the problem, the first item at the top of the Library panel indicated "Catalog..." and AFAIK it never switched to a Session. Can you elaborate a bit on what you mean by it switches to sessions? Thanks.

    I noticed this after a batch renaming operation within a catalog. I have to admit I wasn't entirely sure what relevance that .cop files have in C1P so I deleted the folder which appeared on my disk. I'm not in front of my Mac at the moment but will definitely run some tests later and feed back any thoughts...
