    Hi Grant,

I think it is the limit for now. I do hope PhaseONE will lift the limit. Then again, as a fellow photographer, I think you should save your final, localized edits to the pixel editing software, e.g. Photoshop. Get best out of your RAW and export into Photoshop.

    😊

    I hope you'll like CaptureONE PRO (C1PRO).

    Hi Ron,

    Thanks for the confirmation!

I hear what you say about transferring to Photoshop but for some reason I just don't click with PS and similar applications and only use them when I really have to for serious image hacking.

Prior to joining the crowd of C1PRO users my preferred and almost only used editor was a very similar concept - non-database and toolstacks in sidecar files with final output being direct form the RAW file (or TIF/jpg of course) with the edits added. I still use the application and it gives great results but being slightly older in development terms it lacks a little speed and some frills for mass processing so C1 works better for me when dealing with about 2000 frames a day and a shoot of perhaps 2 or 3 days.

I missed the Local Processing options to some extent but C1 V6 has addressed much of that - or will do when I can spec a machine that I know will give the reliability required. For example yesterday the LA stuff became horribly slow with just 2 levels. After an hour or so and a few crashes (memory related) and few restarts of C1 and a couple of system re-boots things were much improved. But then I was also working in different images ...

There is clearly something a bit 'loose' in the overall installation that I need to figure out and tighten up. Of course the way Windows has evolved means that finding what it is may be a challenge of daunting proportions.

I don't really want to have to set up and manage 2 (or more) applications and their associated files (especially if we are talking large TIFF intermediaries) unless a particular image or output requirement makes it imperative to do so. My preference is to keep the photo edits in one place and only export the results to another application for 'graphics related' edits shoud the need arise. I fully understand that not everyone shares my view!

I share your hope that the limit on the number of layers allowed will be extended. Also that more of the edit tools will be included and the additional features for ever more flexible selection and adustment will be added within the tools and layers will become available over time. (Sooner rather than later would be great! πŸ˜‰ )

    Cheers,

    Grant

    Hi Grant,

The best you could do at this point is to submit a Support Case as a formal request to lift the ban on five layers local adjustments.

I have faith and confidence in P1 that they are doing best as they could accommodate their customers. Earlier in the year, I reported an odd behavior regarding chroma noise when using the "Fine Grain" slider and although I had to wait several months, the current 6.3.2 PRO iteration fixed the weird observation.

Send in a Support Case like...now and in about a month later, reply to the same case to check on the status to see if anything comes.

I am glad you're liking C1PRO and it truly is the best RAW software converter on the market.

    Happy holidays, Grant,

    Ò€”Ron
