Sync Metadata from PM to C1 and again to PM

Try setting "Prefer Embedded XMP over embedded IPTC" to NOT CHECKED, then see if PM will find the data.

Within the image file, there are two places to store Metadata:
  • IPTC Fields
  • XMP Structure

  • These are referred to as "Embedded IPTC" and "Embedded XMP"

("XMP sidecar" is an XMP structure inside the sidecar file)

It may be that Photo Mechanic does not read the XMP inside the image file, or cannot read the XMP format used by Capture One. Therefore try IPTC.

Answer 1: There is not if you have to rely on Capture One and Photo Mechanic only
Answer 2: There is, but it involves programming or scripting in your end

There is a fairly recent thread on metadata exchange between C1 and PM for DNG in the Photo Mechanic Support forum. If you read the postings, you will likely understand answer 1 above and also understand why advice on settings you have received here, are not going to help.

It is possible to extract C1's metadata from the XML file (provided you do a C1 sync first) and embed those metadata in the DNG file. PM then finds C1 metadata in the DNG. It may be slow and painful to do by hand. Better make (program/script) your own software utility for speed and ease.

I opted for the much simpler approach: maintain every single bit of metadata in PM. That is actually a real bonus for me, PM is the metadata Power Tool. When I work in C1 and see metadata that needs fixing, I just sidetrack to PM to fix it and then reload metadata in C1. It works with metadata for other raw file formats as well.

    Hi Odd

Could you provide a link to the PM discussion.
