Multiple sessions opening on launch

I have been using C1 4.7 for the past week or so tethering a 5d 2 to a Mac Pro with reasonable success and stability so far. Whilst there are still some operational issues, all of which have been discussed on these forums, at least I can use the camera tethered which is more than I could 3 weeks ago!
My question is: when i first launch C1 all the previous sessions that I have created open and i have to manually close each one. As I generally open at least one or two new sessions per day this is going to become a little tedious in a month or so. I am sure that i am missing a very easy step to stop this happening but I don't know what it it is. Any ideas?
