Not sur why you can't see the images in the import dialog box. There is a global filter that can hide all tiff / jpeg images but I don't know if it effects the import dialog as I haven't used it.

The files will be imported to wherever you set them to be imported in the import dialog. You can store them in the catalog or have them referenced just like Aperture. I find referenced is usually better while storing them in the catalog is often used as a temporary solution when you are on a laptop and shooting out and about. Once home you can move them from the catalog into a referenced folder. Alternatively you can use sessions on the laptop and import them into the catalog later.

You can reset an image and then use cmnd-z to undo the reset. There is no "Master" view like in Aperture and a few people have already complained about this so maybe it will appear in a later version. You can also create a variant as you have already suggested.

The catalog in C1 is a new feature in comparison to Aperture and is not quite ready for prime time usage imho, be careful with it and keep lots of backups.

Yes, it does. Check the global filter whether it does block certain file types.

Thank you both for taking the time to reply. I'm still really happy with the processing in C1 now that I've had some more time to get to know it, I now just have to get to grips with the cataloging and filing system so that I get things organised a bit better.

However I'm still having the same problem with viewing files on the import screen - I can view some of the JPGs/TIFFs sitting on my desktop within the import dialogue box, but some just appear as a blank box with no preview viewable. I had a look to make sure the global filter is not active but all appears as it should. I'll try importing from a SD card from my camera to make sure that it's not because I'm taking files from Aperture and dragging them from my desktop into C1. If it still persists I'll post a screen shot before I try to go through the helpline.

    Thanks again,
    David
