Frustrations, but believe
hi, i've bought a copy of expression media when Phase One bought it over.
As i already said, i believe enourmously in the Phase One Team, they realy work to make a photographers job easier and boost the quality photographers can deliver. So i thought if phase one buys it to develope it must be good...
I never used expression media, as there was a Long file name problem, and it was messing up all my disks...
C1pro means the world to me, and is used in my studio Every day, there is no better than this... I also only show C1pro in my photography lessons, as i think students must use the best, and do not have to mess around with rubbish from Adobe ...
I am also dreaming to diss Photoshop in favor of 100% C1pro workflow...
So when media pro came out, i did 1 thing, Buy it..
I was extreamly possitive about this, only because the long file name problem was gone, and i FINALY could use this...
But it has been a pain in the ass since.. I've atempted several times to organise catalogues, but every time it blocked after importing a few folders... FRUSTRATIONS!!!
Frustrations, Why, because the lay-out , the workflow idea, the integration with C1pro is exactly what i need!, what we need... It's one of the cataloguing app's that focus on what is important to catalogue... But it has no use since i can only work with a few folders in 1 catalogue...
So, am i alone ? and if yes, What are the minimum requirements for MediaPro, i can't realy find anything on the site ?
(maybe my computer isn't powerfull enough any more and i have to change that... My Mac Pro has a few years now, but it's a octocore with 24 Gigs of Ram, ) May it be better to use it on a Peecee with winflop ? ...
In short what do i have to do to make it run properly.. ?
Further more, what do i have to do to make the "server version" run properly as i would be willing to use it on our server, for all the desktop workstations to acces...

There is nothing what you can do to get better results, the question should be 'what must Phase One do to get better results...'
Version 1 of MP is not ready for serious use yet, the most of us on this forum are waiting for version 2 to come. Hopefully the most frustrating issues will be solved by then. Some of them you mentioned already.
Just read some topics on this forum to get an idea of the issues that live and decide then if you want to use the software already or wait some time.

From the tone of how you piss on all else apps that isn't C1, I want to assuMe you use a Mac?
Has Adobe been wonky with their mess of bad coding and lazy approach to certain things? Yes.
Can you really do all forms of photography without the final hitting photoshop? That is debatable for many, and for those like me, I really appreciate speed, logical layout, stability, fine tuned controls over different ascepts of imagery, and the bottom line of quality. If I am not shooting med format digi backs, I process in ACRaw, and I think it is far from crap.
Back to your MediPro issue....I too am waiting for v2.0 as I, like you purchased into it as I have faith in Phase One. I think that faith mainly stems from their absolute superior hardware they make. But that faith is kinda fading on the software end...C1 newer version is clunky and slow to see files in complete focus. My capture is much slower that v3.10, and some other limit of color control in general. And now with Media Pro being released with issues that could have been avoided for a large amount of them. Some good pop up instructions explaining the options and guiding to make the choices and how they will affect other options would have been very helpful. but I do give them benifit of the doubt as for me C1 is a better quality developer in a number of ways, and I think Phase will work on making sure Media Pro is the tool pro's can rely on. I appreciate them not using existing approaches to making software for C1, but for Media Pro, they don't have to reinvent the wheel, and only hope they can gain from features of some very good DAM software that already is available.0 -

To Raffi, about Photoshop..
I personally think Adobe missed the boat a bit, form sensors and Raw shooters. It's still based on a "scan" workflow, ...
Even with Lightroom, and ACR, that's a Hansaplast on a shot woond... where C1pro evolves into a Raw-bassed editing soft.. love that!, But hey untill now i still need PS, to finish them..

I do know that C1 makes superior files when used to develop raw files. Not doubt about it, and what I use in my work that requires it. For people shoots or for event, I do find it easier to work with ACRaw. I can't be bothered with LR trying to manage and develop. This to me is a FAILED concept from the ground up for people with large files and large image banks.
That's why I would love Media Pro (once it fixes some issues and runs overall smoother) to be running solid, as it is great as a stand alone and with C1. I do like ACRaw as it only pulls in what you will work on, and the rest of the load is off on MPro, Bridge, ACDSee IDi, or what ever browser or DAM you want. Who needs one app doing it "all" It's like taking a 911 Porsche off roading..they are completely different animals with different functions. I even get frustrated as C1 NEEDS to load a last used SESSION...F*** the session! let the user pick the files to load so we can actually work and not wait for 100+ files we just shot reload . I hope with MedaiaPro C1 can just import small Media Pro catalog files, or just go to a browser and be done with it. Why not make things simple? Don't tie in and ultimately cripple what the app is designed to dothings? But it's an All-inOne! Those of you in fine audio know what all in one means. Those that buy a tool in building work know what "all in one" means. It means it SUCKS, period
Were not dealing with survival tools with a flashlight / bottle opener!!! We need to work long hours daily, precisely, FAST, with no hic ups! PLEASE make sw that works solid. With NO HIC-UPS. LOGICAL, Minimalistic, ORGANIZED!! EASE of USE. This is not Microsoft trying to sell a bunch of training sessions for certification! Make things logically placed. The guy that knows the software InsideOut, is NOT the guy that should be doing the layout. Do some research. (=download a bunch of the top competion apps, and make it BETTER). Gain from what makes them each great, and use those concepts and put your spin on it and "own it". btw, this is a general exhaustive rant, and NOT directed at Phase, but to ALL.
Believe me, I am only on these forums to be heard so the entire "integrated" concept is relaxed, and have tools that take the load where they are used and needed....This makes for better software experience in the end of the day. If I didn't have interest for Phase One, I would not be posting. I hope at some point you can drag a catalog into a BLANK browser window of C1 and work away. I have also limited my C1 use as it makes a BUNCH of folders in EVERY file folder I have...geez it is frustrating to delete digital trash.
Take the 911 speedster for fast search managing, sort, label, name, tag, and browser size edits, etc.
Use the 4x4 to work over all the bumps on your images!
They should both be open at hand so you can easily tackle any terrain.
Don't try and do both in the same vehicle!0 -

Depending on what Platform you're on you can hold down Shift (PC) or Option (Mac) to start Capture One to a menu allowing you to choose the session you want to access.0 -
I echo anything bad anyone has said about Media Pro. I have now lost so many hours of time after organizing files,
only to have it CRASH, FREEZE, CRASH MY VIDEO CARD, BE UNABLE TO SAVE, AND JUST PLAIN SUCK. All the versions are horrible. 1.0, 1.0.1, 1.1. All garabge.
Here is what happens. The program will simply crash. Happens about 50% of the time. The program will permanently freeze, about 40% of the time. For awhile it would turn my video card to mush, and I would only have 4 colors on my monitor until I restarted. Now the latest fun is that when I go to save, it will show the percentage, and the percentage will not stop. It goes into the thousands, and does not stop. I am so f'ing pissed of all the time I have spent on this A hole of a program. There must have been 60 crash reports sent to them from me alone, so I hope they are listening. Upgrading
was like flushing money straight down the toilet. I hope they fix this, and I wish there was a competitor.0
