Edit with
Is there a way to edit (add to or remove) what programs appear in the edit with list?

The list is populated by applications which is associated with the file type you are trying to edit.
If application does not appear, then contact vendor for an updated version which is associated and compatible with the file type you are trying to edit.0 -
Thanks for the reply, but my problem is that I have programs, such as Omni Graffle, NoteSuite (note taking program), Preview, Colorsync Utility, and Safari, that appear in the list and only half of the NIK "plug ins", so this is not a matter of asking a company to affect changes. Why can't one simply select from the App list what programs appear in the Edit With list? Seems the onus is on PhaseOne, not the other way round. 0 -
I can't comment on how to do it in the Mac world but in Windows world the associations are usually set up by the vendors and entries in the "associations" table made as part of the installation. I assume Mac world is similar.
If a vendor has not offered a link for a particular file type it might suggest that they don't support it although it could simply be an oversight on their part.
If you don't want to make use of the association you can usually dissociate the application and the file type.
C1 seems to retain your last selection for the next use and proposes a list of previously used possibles as well as allowing you to head off and choose something else should you wish. Again I assume Mac is the same or near enough the same.
That seems to be standard approach that has been taken at the operating system level for years and usually adopted by software authors for all round compatibility in line with OS vendor "standards" in so far as there are any.
If you would like to see an enhanced approach to this the best options would be to create a Support Case - Phase One's way of assessing interest in ideas and maybe at some point managing the idea through a development process if there is sufficient interest to justify allocating the resource to do so.
HTH.

The list should be customisable and not rely on OS file associations. There are many applications that can be associated with an image type file that you would not want in the "Edit In" list. populating the list from OS associations was probably easier than creating a proper customisable interface. Lets hope they add that next. 0 -

It is not what I see on my computer, which appears to be completely oblivious of prior choices.
Could you provide a step-by-step guide on how to accomplish this? Thank you in advance.
Cheers,
Mogens
Edit: Just noticed the difference between a) selecting from the provided list of programs, b) browsing for a program with which to edit. In the first scenario COP8 will remember, in the second it will not. Nothing further need to be said I believe.0 -

Any given file type can be associated with exactly one program. When a user sees like 8-10 suggested programs in the list, that list has obviously not been populated using that mechanism (alone). What are the other mechanisms employed?[quote="Ulf" wrote:

File type associations can be altered by the computer user himself.
