Keywords Missing from Metadata

Firstly, are you running the PRO version?

    http://help.phaseone.com/en/CO8/Organiz ... words.aspx

    If so then ....

The Metadata tab is pretty full and if the Metadata tool is in its expended mode a typical screen may not show enough lines to get to the Keywords tool (although on my installation the tool is at the top by default. It is, of course, customisable to the user's taste.) Try minimising the Metadata to see if the tool appears.

Also you can add the tool to any tool tab or have it floating as a stand alone tool.

    HTH.

    Hi Grant

Yes running the pro version, I have the metadata tab floating and can see the full area. The last entry is the IPTC - Getty Images entry, unfortunately there is nothing below it for some reason. I have also tried minimizing as suggested no luck I am afraid still nothing.

If you have not (intentionally) customised the Workspace you can just go to the Menu

Window > Workspace and set the "Default" workspace.

When I do that what I see in the Metadata Tab is the Keyword Tool at the top and the Metadata Tool below it.

As far as I know you can float tools but not tabs. However you CAN connect 2 floating tools (or several floating tools) together so that the may look like a tab in effect. The difference in that is they act as individual tools without the "smart" auto sizing attributes they may need to exhibit in the Tab.

All you have to do is open the Metadata TAB or add the Keywords tool (floating) and drag it towards the bottom of the (floating) Metadata tool. When an Orange bar appears you can release the tool and it should attach to the one above.

If your Metadata Tab does not display a Keywords tool you can add one (and any other tool you might wish to include there). Right click on the tab's icon and use the "Add tool" option.

Which Tutorials and Videos were you watching? You might be able to tell from them if they were set up specifically to suit the presenter's preferences of for the purpose of convenience during the presentation.

    HTH.

I tried resetting the work-space without any change to the metadata, still no IPTC keywords at the bottom.

The tutorial I was following is at http://blog.phaseone.com/iqp-tip-adding ... r-catalog/

Maybe its now different with version 8, if so many thanks for trying to help.

I believe that the explanation might be that C1 went from supporting simple keywords only to also supporting hierarchical keywords, the former being IPTC-compliant, the latter not; hence the transition from "IPTC - Keywords" to "Keywords".

There were indeed some significant changes to Keyword functionality from V7 (the linked article) to V8 and I think the observation above is correct.

PS. I think my interpretation of the original description and the reference to the Metadata "Tab" may have been somewhat confused and confusing.

The Metadata tool is a little different to many of the C1 tools in that it consists of a lot of grouped sub-sections (for obviously good reasons.) Whilst these might very reasonably thought of as Tabs in that context the most common use of "Tab" in C1 is for a group of tools rather than a set of functional areas within a tool. Combine that with the differences between V7 in the Tutorial and V8 in the screen and the lack of "IPTC" means there is no additional clue to the possibility of confusion!

Happily the screen captures make things very much clearer! Especially the subtle changes to the Metadata tool and clipboard.

Many thanks all for clearing up the issue and my apologies for any confusion I may have caused in my original post 😕

    No apology required!

We all just need to be especially cautious about potential variable use and understanding of commonly used terminology from time to time, though knowing when that should be the case is not always easy or does not immediately spring to mind! This was a subtle version of a case in point where the change is lost in the detail and further fades from memory over time which in no way helps us to spot potential small but frustrating (at the time) confusions. ☚ī¸
