Is there a way to disable Lens Correction by default?

Not really. Workaround: make a preset with Distortion 0% and apply the preset on import or capture.

I was wondeing this myself as I quite often use my 100% viewfinder to compose and find things 'missing' from the edges of the C1 image.
At first I thought It was the viewfinder/camera at fault, but then found all the automatically applied lens corrections were making the images slightly smaller and thus chopping off the edges of the images 🤬

I raised this in a previous post and agree. i would have thought most users would prefer not to have automatic "hidden" crop adjustments on what is primarily a raw convertor. Setting a preset on import does work, but why is there not a tick box to select which adjustments to invoke . Not even the 'down triangle' for "save as defaults" for "camera model" that other parameters such as sharpening have.

    This is an interesting conundrum.

On the one hand an efficient application might gain that reputation by "fixing" stuff without having to be told what to do. Potentially good for bulk processing for example.

On the other hand if the camera is not 'fixing' the image as presented through the viewfinder or screen then composition will potentially be compromised by the subsequent correction.

That implies that the photographer is happy to support the "distortion". In which case the correction should certainly be optional.

Either that or the camera manufacturers should endeavour to display the "corrected" image prior to taking the shot. That, in turn, suggest an EVF would be required.

    Hmm.

i think it should be disabled by default. there can always be option to set and applied together with other things on import, but every time i start with new setting to reset it is tiresome and another reason why i still keep C16 for big projects.
Defaults should be as neutral as possible.
Some lenses are used for their distortion and you lose some of the image.

I read this post half year ago and hoped Developer would notice this and give us an option to turn it off by default. No, this request is just ignored. I'm using LR5 more and more now.

Edit: I downloaded the latest 7.1.5 and found it did have an option to tick "Disable Default Lens Correction", but it didn't work? Tick it or not, nothing happened, it still has 100% lens distortion correction applied. ☹️

Also, I just don't want automatic distortion correction, which in many cases ruined my composition effort. I don't mind other correction (esp. CA remove).

Disabling lens correction was introduced in CO7.1.4. It takes effect on new images.

Edit: it takes effect when you open/import new images. You could regard it as a program configuration that translates to an image setting on first opening.

Thanks for the info able being able to stop default lens corrections. That's good news. I have compared the distortion corrections between DPP, Capture One and PT Lens and I like PT Lenses' corrections best.
