Anyone contacted Canon regarding the SDK issue?

All I keep hearing is that they are dragging there feet, although Adobe apparently have a copy.
Could it be Adobe have paid for "exclusive" access, after all C1 is the only real competition to Lightroom?

Doubt we will ever hear the real story from C1.

I've contacted Canon, my CPS contact response below.

[color=#FF0000:74zx2gtk]"I would need to investigate via management as the claims Phase are making may not be the truth. It is very funny that Lightroom and many other companies have been working fine, but Phase continue to blame Canon.

I will forward your email onto our tech services team who have a direct contact with Canon Inc in Japan to see if there is any information regarding this officially."[/color:74zx2gtk]

Your CPS contact is off base. Lightroom uses a self developed PTP - hence why no camera controls or live view. To do that you need the SDK... this is why we use it.

Things are looking up however. Watch the skies.

Thanks for your response, I think its great how you respond to all activity on this forum.

Unfortunately the functionality you have mention really is not needed for what I do. I think the point you missed was that your competition software works without issues. Right no I would settle for the basics..

I have no doubt that Capture is the best product, but if you had been my digi operator for the last two weeks of work you would be ready to look at other options. It's been a fairly bad run since the introduction of mountain lion and the upgrade to the Canon 1dx,The miss managed launch of Capture 7 is really the icing on the cake. I can not help but think it was rushed due to finical issues?

My software is crashing about 15-20 times a day at the moment.

Yes I would love to send you reports but my work load is crazy enough right now. The best solution we have found to using 7.01 is to crate folders in finder and then set them as Capture folder. Even then we have had difficulties. I might add we are using different hardware and operating systems and still no relief.

Nightmare is really not even close to describing my issues over the last couple of months. Tomorrow I am shooting on the Phase +45 back, then off to Bali for 1 week shoot which scare's the hell out of me as I am back on the 1DX...

No worries, I just wanted to straighten the position out.

We are doing what we can for what is a real problem for a lot of our users - whether that is our fault or not we are looking into alternatives and applying whatever resources we have to try and get this fixed.

Regarding the crashes, I can help you but I need the logs and crash reports to see where the issue may be and this is best handled in a support case.

The immediate solution, if stability becomes an obstacle to production, is Capture in v6: both cameras you use are supported in 6.4.4 though you will need the same workaround for tethering the Canon.

Your v7 key is backwards compatible with v6.

    Adam,
If I was your digital operator there would be no issues tethering a Canon 1DX with Capture. My computer is running 10.6.8 with C1 6.4.4. There are no issues with that configuration. I refuse to update my system and Capture software until bugs and issues are ironed out. Everyone else here complaining should do the same.

I too am amused by people here on real shoots complaining about connection/crashing issues. In an alternate reality all new products and updates will work as intended but in the real world - like real clients on set - this does not happen and I would never expect it. my systems work rock solid too - I have no problems being multiple versions behind since I can get work done - flawlessly.
what has been gained by going past 10.6.8? icloud? versions?
and why the rush to C1P v7? a bit better processing? I'd rather have a new version be fast and stable before that.
if you are using a computer for work - and I recommend a capture computer to be used almost exclusively for work - 10.6.8 and v644 is the best combo. The silly thing is now we are waiting for Canon to provide proper Mac support in their SDK!

Makes perfect sense to me. And that is what I tell photographers I support on a daily basis. No problem if you want to try new stuff, but have a stable and proven setup in place until you are ready to switch. And with Mac, that is very easy (second disk and so on).

But in that same real world people are sensitive to NEW and BETTER labels, have less patience, are curious, and reacting sometimes on impulse. That applies not only to clients, but photographers too. Fortunately, we have this forum and we can learn from each other. 😉
