Is ANYONE having success with C1 v7?
So C1 is up to v7.0.2 now and I'm wondering if anyone is experiencing day to day success with using the program for tethering and processing images in general and specifically with Canon cameras. I tried v7 when it initially was released but had an endless amount of problems with metadata syncing (disappearing ratings), sorting issues, deleting images, and renaming images. I did really like the processing quality, but found the problems I experienced to be too much to handle, so I reverted back to 6.4.3. Looking forward to hearing from people who are happy with the upgrade and are working full production with v7.

Just out of curiosity, what OS are you using? What are the specs on your machine? 0 -

v 7.0.2 is still very buggy:
blocking the whole computer system with need to to restart when trying to process pictures. solved by re-installing
showing black pictures in preview and viewer. not solved so far
very annoying!
working on macbook pro mid 2012 2.6 Ghz Core i7...0 -

Just tried it, but sadly no effect...
Will now downgrade to 7.0.1 and wait for next update...0 -
Hi,
I don't have any of the problems you are writing here (iMac 27" late 2009, 16GB RAM, MacOS X 10.8.2), even OpenGL is used without any problems.0 -
Absolutely, on both of my computers, 2012 27" iMac w/ 3.4Ghz i7 & only 8GB, and 2011 MBP w/2.2 Ghz I7 & 8GB, both running the latest non-beta software. I use both the D7000, and most recently the D800, without any major issues. The D800 files seemed a bit long to process, and I wish the D7000 had live view support, but that's it. The only issue I had was having to force quit C1 this weekend while on a shoot. It was probably my fault though. I was checking the dimensions on a image in PS (the the final will be 16 feet long at 100 dpi). Between PS (w/ a 1.4GB image open), Bridge, and C1 all running at the same time, my MBP got angry when I tried to open a different folder in Sessions.
I have experienced hangups, and that can be frustrating, but overall, I wouldn't even consider anything else. Did Phase rush the latest version before all the bugs were worked out? Probably. But, how much of that was driven by we photographers constantly asking about the release date of the next upgrade?
I still recommend Capture to those who ask, it's just now I caveat that there are some bugs that need to be worked out.0 -
I had issues with the instal and it asking for my activation code every time. I opened a case with phaseOne and they solved it for me (had to repair preferences). After that I have only had to force quit it a few times. That was a hassel, but seams to not be happening now. I do not know what was the issue there.

I've had good success while working in sessions and some frustrations with catalogs. Cannot tether now, but that's because I stepped on the USB cable and mangled the USB port on my 5DMKII. I think maybe catalogs were pushed out a bit quick, but the rendering of RAW images is amazing and I'm thankful that I can now use by Fuji for more than just jpegs. 0 -
I would say, by and large, I'm having great success with C1 Pro 7. I'm processing large Canon and Olympus files routinely without too many hiccups. There are little things, though, that have not yet been resolved, ie when I quit Pro 7 I sometimes get a prompt that says, " Capture One has unexpectedly quit," as if the app had crashed ... but, of course, it hadn't. So somewhere between my actual "quit" and actually quitting, there's a mild crash. ????
Other than that and other things not worth mentioning, I'm getting very good to excellent results on a regular basis. Pro 7 had helped my workflow tremendously, and the image quality I'm getting is second to none. Somehow, those folks at Phase One have really nailed it when profiling the RAW files from my cameras.

I am having a great deal of difficulty maintaining a fast efficient professional workflow with C1v7. I have Canon 5DmkIII 5DmkII. I have not successfully import a single complete CF card without a crash/lockup/forced quit due to lockup. I find the images that finally result are superb, but the process in gruelling and very frustrating. When I start C1 v7 it seems to spend minutes doing I dont know what - if I click on a session (favourite or folder) often it says "no images" and after a few click away and back, the preview boxes load with no images and then sometime later some/all of the previews load (sometimes they dont load at all). The metadata handling threads seem to be causing crashes if you click on anything else in the program while they are running. When I successfully get a CF card to load, a 16GB (Sandisk extreme Pro - 90MB/s with USB2 card reader), it takes s about 15-20mins to load all images. Then the previews will generate for another 10-15mins? This is on the latest MBP 15" Retina with 16GB ram and 512GB SSD with eternal usb3 and thunderbold drives. I can manually copy the files from the card in a couple of minutes. Most often, when I put a CF card into the reader, the C1 import dialogue appears and the spinning process wheel goes around and nothing happens until I force quit C1 and try again. If I click import all straight away, then mostly I get none or the first image imported and then lockup.
Hoping C1 can be fixed soon so I can use it. My suspicions are that the inclusion of the catalogue code (probably from Media One) has caused issues in the multi-thread architecture of the program.0 -
Mark,
Out of interest, have you tried copying the card to a disk and then importing from there? If so does it make a difference?
If you are using sessions you don't have to import of course so it might also be interesting to see what happens if you just access the copied in folder directly and work with that.
Do you set up a new session for each ingestion?
In V6 I find this the best way to go (unless adding to an existing session) but I am currently using Windows so the experience may not be entirely identical. That set I have form time to time seen similar problems to those you describe in V6. They seem to be down to rogue files - something unrecognised perhaps?
I have also seem comments in here about possible issues with video files and maybe sRAW and mRAW prior to 7.0.2.
Can't comment on catalogues I'm afraid.

I'm running 7.0.2 on an Imac i7 processing Canon 1DsMk3 files and there is a very noticeable deterioration in processing time compared to v6. A typical shoot of 100 files processing out to TIFF and 4 sizes of JPEGs used to take 40 mins at most (same body, same Mac) and now takes 3 hours 40 minutes!! Not a commercial advantage! 0 -
Repeatable issue: "cannot attach camera" error with the 1dx and 1dMkIV if the tether cable gets disconnected. Have to quit, sometimes force quit, and relaunch, then it works fine again. Tether lock generally solves this, or in a pinch, a lot of gaff.
Also: low-end/shadow skin tones trend to very orange on the 1dx. Not sure how to solve this properly. I have a client who insists on shooting tethered, high res JPEGs, and I tried in vain to solve this issue. But, without any conclusive results, we have gone back to the 1dMkIV. Steps I've taken to solve this problem: generated custom white balance; zeroed out the camera color profile (Neutral or Faithful); switched Capture's skin tone from Beige - Deep, to Beige - Light. I think it's a camera issue, though.
No issues with the D800, apart from slow previews and Apple's lack of USB3 presence in their towers ☹️
Wish I had my Sort By hot keys back as an option over the Filters.
Otherwise, wonderful! Thank you for turning off the overly aggressive sharpening for web preview galleries. Love that all the in-app file processes are much faster - batch rename, move, etc. Overall stable and fast on OSX 10.7.4 - makes me reluctant to "upgrade" to 10.8.3 😉

Jim, if this shadow skin tone issue is with in-camera JPEGs, it is probably a camera issue.
You could try to solve this issue by making an adapted camera profile (will be the JPEG Neutral profile in this case, I think) with Color Editor (CE) Advanced or Skin Tone tab.
How? First make the edits with CE (lower saturation in selected color, for example, or a Hue rotation). Next, save as ICC profile. Third, apply the profile without using the edits from CE anymore. You can make the new ICC profile stick during tethering or even the new default profile.0 -
Interesting to know people here are also seeing issues, glad I asked so I didn't feel like there was a hiccup in my setup. I've had better luck since originally downloading v7.0, which was awful, but with v7.0.2 there are new problems I'm experiencing. If I try to move files within C1 - specifically dragging thumbnails from the image browser to a folder in the session, the preview disappears and clicking in the original or the new folder shows no images. If I open a Finder window, I can see the image in the new folder location. So the move is taking place, but C1 is not reflecting the change.
I'm also noticing that tethered shooting with my 5DIII is EXTREMELY slow in image previews being viewable. Shooting with the same camera, same computer, same cables with v6.4.3 I notice the previews are ready about 2-4 seconds sooner. 2 seconds may not sound like a lot, but if I'm shooting 10-20 shots in a sequence and the client is standing by the computer, those 2 seconds become 40 - a lot to wait just to see if the hair/clothes/face look good on a subject. I tried to zero out sharpening, detail, noise reduction, and lens profiles, but it doesn't appear that much sooner.0 -
Terence2,
Regarding your first issue - moving images in a session makes them disappear - I can not reproduce it.
Regarding the second issue, slow preview generation during tethering, I like to suggest an small experiment.
Starting with the assumption that preview size and the CO7 engine can have their impact on the speed of preview generation, I suggest to align CO7 with your CO6 setup.
- step1: set the preview size in CO7 according to the value in CO6 (Preferences > Image tab > Cache)
- step2: set the Default Processing Engine in CO7 to Capture One 6, only for testing! (Preferences > Image tab > Editing)
Note that you have to do an Upgrade to CO7 Engine after step2 from the Base Characteristics tool.
I am curious about the effect (if any).0 -
In System prefs > Energy > turn off 'automatic video'. This will use the faster graphic card. (battery life will be shorter). I tether my d800 all the time, no problems if I keep a session under 100 img's. Then I just start a new session. 0 -
I have big problems with the catalog and metadata. I am trying Express 7 and simply you can't add another catalog, there are not + sign to create another like in the Pro version. Every time I open C1 started to load again all the metadata of all the photos in the catalog, this mean that you can't do any other action. I am using the last macbook pro 3ghz i7 retina of 13 inches. I am really trying to find a use of this software because I like the image quality but I can't get manage a workflow with it. 0 -
6 Express had a single session and similarly 7 has a single catalog. Multiple "documents" is a Pro feature... 0
