Capture One 5.x 64-bit?
Is there a 64-bit version? i just reinstalled Capture One 5.1.2 on my new 64-bit Windows 7 machine and it installed in the 32-bit Programs directory.
Thanks.
Thanks.

A 64-bit version of CO5 is not available currently. However, discussions on the topic are, in case you like to read here on the forum. I believe this is the most recent one: viewtopic.php?f=20&t=8819 0 -
Thanks. I understand the logic behind waiting. But at some point 64-bit can enable Capture One to do things not possible in 32-bit. That's one reason Photoshop went 64-bit. But PhaseOne I'm sure doesn't have as huge a development team as Adobe so you have to focus your resources where they'll be most effective. Capture One is a fantastic raw processor and as long as you're the best at that, you'll be ok in my book.
That said, most or all computers sold now run 64-bit, especially the serious machines with Windows 7 on beefy computers used for heavy duty graphics related processing. So it would be good to start working on 64-bit versions or risk getting left behind long-term. Some of my favorite Photoshop plug-ins are having the same problem and need to update their technology before competitors take market share from them. I would really hate to see that happen to Capture One, I love the product and use Lightroom mostly for cataloging and would like to keep it that way.
By the way, it would be cool if Capture One could come up with some really great cataloging features to make Lightroom less attractive in that area, I'd love to use only one tool for raw processing.0 -

Well of course, Expression Media is very capable in that regard, and I understand that there will be increasing integration between EM and C1 as development of the two applications progresses.0 -

The memory requirements of Photoshop and C1 are completely different. Photoshop needs more than 4GB if you're editing large or multi-layered files. C1 will run quite happily in a 4GB memory space, giving it more memory won't help so there's no advantage in a 64-bit version.
