Metal or Open CL???

I understand that Mojave 10.14. is running on Metal. C1P 12 states in his prefs that it is running on OpenCL. What does it mean? Are you either on Metal or OpenCL on a Majove platform? Is this a question of the respective app, what is used? Does that mean, that C1P still is on OpenCL, or does C1P support Metal?

    OpenCL is just deprecated, so it is still working in OSX and C1 is just fine now
