When starting, Capture One 5 is reading a number of files besides the program files. The preference file is the first that comes to mind, but you already removed the Phase_One folder in your user's profile folder, which contains the preference file USER.CONFIG. Better safe than sorry, you might want to check again. Instructions can also be found here:
    viewtopic.php?p=34318#p34318

Next, I would delete the default session file (Capture One.col50) in the Pictures/Capture One Library folder.

Another way to test whether the problem is user-based or computer-based to help troubleshooting, log in as a different user on your computer and start CO5. If it runs fine, the problem is in the user profile, if not, it is in the computer (can for example be .NET Framework related).

There are knowledgebases article for both fully uninstalling CO4 or 5 and repairing .NET Framework on XP:
    PhaseOne KB1158 - Uninstall CO4 from WinXP/Vista
    Repair NET FX for XP
Note that you need up to .NET FX 3.5 SP1 for CO 5.x

    Paul thank you so much!

i did now open an issue at support - if i get anywhere i will let you know.

unfortunately all this actions did not solve my problem.
I checked for virus again, repaired all the Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 3.0. 3.5 SP1 (again)
installed PO 5.1 again. tried another user.

I did notice a blimb of a second a crash message box appearing. i was not able to even film it with camtasia it dissapeard so fast . do you know of any log files that would lieave somewhere, sins it has time to show up quickly?

Any way to star P1 in a different mode?
I am allmost giving up. but then where should i go? PO is in my eyes the most comfortable RAW converter and it does a great job... or i must say ... did ..

    kind regards

Arthur101, did you ever have this problem resolved?

I'm having a similar very nasty problem with C1 v5.1.1 Pro displaying the splash screen then exiting. Discussion here: Re: Capture One 5.1.1 crashes on start-up
