How to delete a catalog or session

It should do no harm to delete the session or catalog at system level. You could then open C1 by double clicking on a session file or a catalog file that you have not deleted. You can then clear the list of recent sessions or catalogs - click on the drop down menu in the Library tab that shows the name of the current catalog or session, and choose the option "Clear Menu".

Edited to add: but be careful if any of the test catalogs you created in trying it out are "managed" (with the images inside the catalog) rather than "referenced" (with the images elsewhere). You'd need to be sure you weren't deleting your only copy of the images.

I have the same question. I searched and watched tutorials to find an answer how to delete a session or catalog from within capture one. In the end I did it system level.

However, it doesn't seem right or go cleanly when deleting at system level. I needed to restart capture one, clear menu then find all the live catalog's and sessions again. I know I'm doing something wrong.

There is no option to selectively clear menu items, it's all or nothing. I want to leave those I haven't deleted.

It's a professional tool. Never delete something you are working on.

Deleting the catalog folder, when not using the catalog, is correct.

The advice I got from 'support' was to open the catalog I wanted to delete and control-click on the name at the top of the window. This shows a pathway to the location of the catalog on the disc. You click on that pathway to go to the location to delete the catalog. That advice implies that it is OK to delete the file while it is still open. Otherwise, you have to return to Capture One, close the file and then go back to finder. That isn't the pathway for a professional tool. There should be built-in buttons to perform simple tasks like this.

I also should mentioned that I could find nothing in the user guide, or on-line help files, to explain the process to delete a catalog.

This isn't a big deal. But it should also be something that is an easy 'fix'.

Thanks, I assume that is also the approved method for sessions. Can you comment?

You can certainly locate a session file on your file system that way. But I am not convinced it would be possible (or if it is possible, I am not convinced it would be wise) to delete a catalog or session while you had it open. That would be like deleting a Word or Excel file while it was open. I'd use the method that Support mentioned to find the catalog or session in the file system but only delete it when you had closed it.

Yes - that is what the support reply said. But, based on my experience, I would echo that you should close the session before deleting it. Which is more cumbersome than it need be.
