Color Editor adjustments don't work

I'm a new user to C1, and so far I have found it very effective except for this problem I'm having with the Color Editor. No matter the configuration (adjustment layer or entire image) or option (Basic, Advanced, and Skintone) adjustments don't work. Tell me if I'm missing something:

I can open the Color Editor, use the eyedropper to select a color, and move the sliders and other options in the color editor panel. However, none of the adjustments change the image and "View Selected Color Range" doesn't convert other colors to grays. The selected color window doesn't show the original and new colors. It just shows original color in Basic. In Advanced and Skintone modes the selected color window shows the original color and RGB HSV values which remain unchanged when I move the sliders.

I'm running C1 Pro for Sony version 9.0.3.14 (9f9ab92) 64-bit on a Lenovo T450s Windows 7 Pro 64-bit with 1920x1080 display. I've submitted a support ticket, but thought someone here might have experience with this.

    I assume you are referring to the Color Editor tool in the Color tab, not the one in the Local Adjustments tab?

    In the Color Editor tool in the Color tab, if you click on the triple-dot (...) button, does the "Adjust Selected Layer" option in the pop-up menu have a tick mark next to it?

    If so, and you also have an Adjustment layer selected in the in Local Adjustments tab, then the controls will be trying to change the colors in the Adjustment layer and not in the Background layer. If the mask in the Adjustment layer doesn't coincide with the selected color, then you won't see any changes.

    I get the same results whether I'm using the Color Editor in the Color tab or the Local Adjustments tab. I have selected "Adjust selected layer". I get the same results whether or not I have created an adjustment layer. If I select "Create masked layer from selection", it will create a new layer, but there is no mask.

    What sort of colour are you selecting?

    You can adjust the default selection parameters to cover a wider range and create a new layer and mask until you see what works. The effect of this masking method for mask creation is somewhat different to normal layer masking.

    Try inverting the mask to see what that gives you.

    Thanks Grant and Richard, I appreciate your suggestions.

    The image I am testing with has red, yellow, blue, pink, orange, brown, and white colored stripes. It doesn't matter which color I choose, or how wide or narrow I adjust the smoothness, there is no change in the resulting image. When I choose a blue color and rotate the wheel all the way to red, the image doesn't change. When I invert the selection and do the same, nothing changes. Making multiple selections in the same range of colors is the same.

    This might be a troubleshooting clue for the developers: When I check "View selected color range" the image briefly sharpens and then returns to normal.

    When I tell it to make a mask from the selection, it makes a new layer, but the mask is absent. When I invert the mask, it covers 100% of the image.

    If you have any other ideas, I'd love to hear them.

    What type of image is it? camera raw, JPEG or TIFF?

    Any chance you could upload a copy somewhere for us to test?

    I've also been in contact with tech support. I sent them a copy of the image, exported as a .eip file per their request. They're going to schedule a screen sharing session with me to troubleshoot, since they couldn't duplicate the problem with the picture. I'll keep you posted.

    Hi Aaron,

    Thanks for providing the file. I have tested it in my copy of Capture One Pro V9.0.3 (on Windows 7) and it is responding normally to the sliders in the Color Editor and also successfully creates a mask from the selection.

    I hope the screen share session can provide the answer to why it's not working for you.

    OK, issue resolved! Jon in tech support looked at it through a teamviewer session. The problem wasn't a setting or anything configurable. It appears that the Sony color profiles were corrupted during the upgrade. The program didn't get or couldn't use the color profile data. Replacing the color profile files did the trick.

    It did take a few minutes to find the problem. A log file showed that there was a color problem and that led him to check the ICC Profile in Base Characteristics. Switching that to other profiles (Phase One, Adobe, Nikon, etc.) showed a drastic difference and the color editor was functional using those other profiles, although obviously not for my camera.

    I hope someone finds this information helpful. For the record, I am very pleased with the C1 for Sony software and with the way my support ticket was resolved.

    That's a great update - thanks. Potentially very useful for people discovering strange problems in the future.

    Based on your description I was going to suggest that something behind the scenes had "gone wrong" but knowing precisely what that might be was another matter. When you mentioned you had a screen sharing session scheduled it seemed best to leave the investigation to the experts! (That alone probably saved you a lot of time ....)
