From the reply I got from support 3 weeks ago, I'm afraid they are not seeing it as a serious issue.

Feel free to open a support case at:

I've been bitten badly by this. It really, really needs to be changed.

That's "by design", the new feature is 10.1 to "simplify and improve" deletion of the images. 😊

    Very annoying and very buggy.

For example, when I hit Del, the image is removed to Trash immediately, but I could click Undo and restore it, BUT it only works for the first 1-2 seconds. After that, something happens, some other actions occur, and undo make no effect.

So, if you deleted the photo by accident and didn't notice it immediately, you can't undo this action, you have to go to the Trash and than try to figure out from which collection the photos came here and how to get them back.

I am puzzled by PhaseOne decisions on this one. Photos (an collections of those) are THE MOST important things for us, as photographers. Deleting them without warning (esp. in cases when we DO say in settings that we WANT warnings and confirmation) is just not good.

I really do hope the devs would reconsider this.

If you go back through the forum you can find a lot of posts that echo your thoughts ... and a lot of others that there should be an IMMEDIATE total delete when the Delete key was used since the writer knows exactly what they are doing and don't want a multiple key and/or multiple step process to achieve it. And NO WARNINGS because they mean an extra click.

The developer cannot win. However I agree that the apparent lack of warnings, apparently controlled by preferences, is not a good situation. If there is some sort of reason for that related to Operating system settings or something then let people know.

As for anyone with a Delete key right under their hand at all times .... disable it or change the keyboard.

Mine is bad enough when I catch the Delete rather than Backspace but if the delete key was somewhere a lot closer to the regular working area I think I would be looking for an alternative keyboard.

Well, they actually can! 😊 If they allow to rebind the Delete key to whatever action we desire. Those who want to delete their images immediately, could bind it to "Delete from Disk" and disable the confirmation dialog in the settings.

Those who'd prefer avoid the whole Trash indirection, but would like to get the confirmation before image is deleted, could bind Delete key again to "Delete from Disk", but enable the confirmation dialog in the settings.

Personally, I would prefer the case when I *always* get the Dialog asking me what to do with particular image. Should it be just removed from the collection, should it be deleted altogether or should it be moved to Trash.

I don't delete images manually that often, so the dialog won't annoy me at all. Usually, I mark all bad photos with red label, and delete them all at once. Knowing *exactly* which action is going to be performed on a big list of photos is good.

Yeah, bugs me how hard it is for them to implement such simple measures.

Nope, that only suits those people who prefer to fully understand how a systems works and take control over its inner settings.

I would guess that 50% of users really don't want to know anything about that and would complain that they have a product that is too difficult to use and understand.

As I understand things right now there are, effectively, 2 delete options depending on what you think you want to delete and whether you are using managed or referenced files and it should be a case of using the option that you prefer. Of course that is entirely dependent on having a preferred option.
