does importing copy images from hard drive?
hi i'm a very new use to capture one. if i import images from a location in my hard drive, does this mean it physically copies the actual images? do i end up with 2 copies of the images? if so, how do i stop it doing this? also, when it is importing it has a window generating proxies or something like that. it takes a LONG time even on my new i7 iMac. what is this doing?

When the image files are already on your hard disk, you do not need to import them. Just open them from the Library tool, which is basically Capture One's Finder.
At first opening a folder with image files, Capture One (CO) will generate so-called proxies in a subfolder of the image folder. The proxy file, or pair of proxy files since, for each image file contains the preview of the raw file for the CO Viewer. The larger the number of images, the longer it takes to generate the proxies. When you don't copy the images files anymore due to importing, proxy generation might be a lot faster as well.0 -
thanks that helps. but when i open CO it forces me to either open or start a new session, do i create the session within the folder of the files i want to work on? how then do i get the files into the session?
i must say the documentation with the software is not very comprehensive.0 -
also, you didn't tell me, does CO copy the images when it imports? 0 -

CO always works with a session, but you can neglect it and always work in the same session, for example the default session. A session is a way to organize image files and output files (among others).
To start easy, open the Capture One session. Next, you use the System Folders tool on the Library tool tab to browse to your image folder.
If you are on 5.1, you might have noticed the Welcome screen with an introduction and a link to the online videos. Have you been able to get a glimpse of them already?0
