I was stupid enough to click on catalogue also when launching the first time.
How can we return to the old session version??

I really do not want to archive shootings in a CAPTURE software.. it is capture one - not archive 1 ☹️

You can select "New Session" from the File menu or use the "+" sign next to the Catalogue's name and start a new session. Alternatively you can double click one of your old sessions or drag it onto the app's icon to open it.

Wait. Are you saying that the old file browser is no longer available? One must use either the catalog or sessions? What about folders that are not part of sessions.

Working as digital techs we have to say :
This is not an alternative for photographers / digital techs that do not want unwanted forced organization tools.
Open sessions at least should be there.. directly out of the library. The old library should be there without a session.
If wanted - the catalogue function HAS TO be disabled and removed.
This is not archive 1 - this is still capture 1.

There was always something nice in every new release - but moving CAPTURE in direction of ARCHIVE and CAPTURE is not the right way. Maybe that brings you in a whole new market of semi professionals - but you turn of professionals for sure.

I have to agree with others on this.

The lack of a file browser and the forcing of the use of sessions and catalogs is a design mistake that needs to be rectified.
I can see under the covers this makes for a clear design but in reality all you do is provide a database for storage of CaptureOne change data that used to be put into a subdirectory of the file location.

I want software tools that allow me to work my way not force me to work in a singular fashion as decided by some software designer in a distant place.

Now we are lumbered with a tool that means that everything has to be cataloged also it seems like there can be no logical file 'structure' applied to the catalog except as sessions. Sorry this is a design flaw.

May I suggest that you try the session route so that you can see that the "old" library with the system folders is very much there where it has always been?

    Thanks

This is all one misunderstanding. Like Yaya suggests, chose Session. You always worked with a session but was perhaps not aware of it. Even if you do not use the session concept, you can browse all your folders as you like.

With CO7 YOU have one additional choice. Nothing is forced on to you. You can work the way since CO1 (or CO4 if you jumped on later).

The Catalog/Session choice on first start is not permanent. You can use these independent and even concurrent, that is at the same time. Yes, multiple session and/or catalogs. Free, free, free.

CO7 is optimum in flexibility in this regard. But I understand it is not that obvious at first sight. That is why we have this forum. Enjoy.

Maybe a good addition would be an open session icon on the start screen when you open the program. I know that it works by shortcut as i did found out by accident. Right now it only gives you the option of new session.
And you should have the possibility to disable the catalogue surface in total.

I work on about 6 different macs with capture one - and we have per week about 10 different shoots piling up. The catalogue idea might be a good idea for some that work basically on one machine and not to much data.
We have a different archive system and the catalogue idea is completely contra productive for us. You can of course ignore it - but it is always confusing the same time. I can see some who rent our computers starting to save some shoots in the catalogue and we have double the time to maintain our equipment.

So in conclusion - maybe a switch of function for the catalogue would be great.

    I found that of course.

But if you have no session in your history window open it will only give you the option new session or to browse cataloges - which i do not want.

i do not want to see the cataloge thingy at all.

Ok thanks to Yaya for his help.

    Sessions = Filebrowser.

Ok decypher this........ Why dress up something with a new name when you dont need to?

Now I can use my test image set to see how well Capture Pro v7 works.
