I use PM and C1, but I never do C1 "import". But then, I use C1 in session mode, the C1 catalog is not made for me, neither is the Lightroom catalog. The PM catalog (PM Plus) is probably a better fit.

I keep my sessions under a root folder and ingest straight into the image folder (or sub folder) of the relevant session. No import required.

C1 catalog mode requires C1 import. You probably want C1's "Import To"->"Destination"->"Current Location" which is C1 lingo for "use image files where they are, do not copy or move them".

I never user the C1 menu options for "export", I use the Process functionality with recipes for formats and output locations.

Thank you for your helpful answer. My workflow is similar to yours. Can you please clarify the following in your message:

"You probably want C1's "Import To"->"Destination"->"Current Location" which is C1 lingo for "use image files where they are, do not copy or move them".

I don't find "Current Location" as an option. I see "Capture Folder", "Session Folder" and "Selected Folder" as the three options. Did you mean "Selected Folder"?

As you store your RAW files in PM, can you transfer the rankings or colour labels in PM into C1?

Sorry about that, I believed the first sentence of that paragraph would define the context: "C1 catalog mode". If you see "Session Folder", you likely run C1 in session mode which is different.

Think of a Session as a folder on disk. Inside that folder, the "session" folder, there will (by default) be sub folders for images and for C1 housekeeping. There will also be a database, the database filename is normally session-foldername.cosessiondb. The default image location is "session-folder/Capture. I typically ingest (PM) into session/Capture or subfolders, perhaps like so. session/Capture/day1-beach, session/Capture/day2-boat,....

The session/Capture folder is the default location, but a C1 session can access images in any folder inside or outside the session folder hierarchy. Note that a C1 session creates a CaptureOne subfolder in each image folder it visits. Even if you only intend to browse the folder's images in C1. Make sure you are prepared to live with the way C1 sessions behave :-)

C1 will normally update its image data when it first see the image file. If you change metadata in PM, C1 will normally not update it's metadata, but you can force C1 Reload Metadata and you can have it one automatically ( there may be a speed penalty)

If you modify metadata in C1, it can write its metadata to XMP sidecar files where PM can pick up the changes. Force it by a manual Metadata Sync, or try the auto mode.
