C 1 as an External Editor
I am wondering if it's possible to use C 1 as an external Editor with Aperture

Technically, yes. Practically, no.
To start, you can define Capture One as the external editor in Aperture preferences.
You need CO7 to start with a session. A catalog is allowed as well, but you have to import it.
However, Aperture converts any raw to a predefined format like TIF 8-bit. What is the added value of CO7?
Last, how does the changed (by CO7) enters your Aperture Library? CO7 have to process any changes first. Next, you have to import it in Aperture again.
Maybe I am missing some details, as I am not an Aperture specialist, but it does not seems logical to me.0 -
You would be better to use the Catapult plugin with C1 as the nominated raw developer. It will then send the raw to C1 and you do what you do to the file. The Catapult plugin will then returned the developed jpeg/tiff to the library. You then need to copy the metadata (keywords etc) over to the developed file.
I suppose this way you get the strength of Aperture's library system and the superior C1 raw development. Whether it is worth the effort is up to you. Is the C1 catalogue system unusable for you?0 -
One workaround I found for this was through using Photomechanic during the ingest and setting up a CO Session for the specific job.
1. Ingest into a top tier folder for the day or job (2014-05-10-Headshot-Client_Name)
2. I root out the images to delete and get rid of them.
3. Select 1,2,3 star images.
4. Set up a corresponding Capture One session inside the main folder and use PM to physically move the chosen images into the "Selects" folder within CO. (PM can shove these in faster than CO can do an import)
5. Once I open CO, all the raw files I expect to work on are sitting there waiting.

When I'm not shooting a lot of clients and am just doing my own shooting from day to day, I follow the same principles except I'll set up one CO session for the whole week or even month. I can add "Favorites" inside the Session to separate weeks, days, etc. Since I'm already getting rid of images I don't want to keep, this Session Folder rarely ever risks becoming too big and causing issues.0
