The Canon 1DS MKII is faster.
The Canon 5D is also fast.
Again it also depends on the length of your 1394 cable, the processor speed, hard drive speed, total RAM in the system.
If you've max'D out the computer and have a 15Ft cable you should be in great shape.

    i shoot with a 5D into a mac pro/C1 pro

you will get a 1-3 second delay shooting raw before the image fully comes up depending on your hardware config.

unfortunately, dslr's are connected via usb, and not 1394.

    Seanarmenta,

Your generalization that: "...unfortunately, DSRL's are connected via USB, and not 1394...."
Is a good bit of misinformation.

As you can see the MKII is 1394 & the 5D is USB 2.0

Since I only shoot with the MKII tethered I made the mistake that I had used the 5D that way as well.
Fact is the 5D is my grab camera and these images are shot to card.
