How to reduce size of Catalog?

Hi,

I have a new catalog with only 1113 images and the catalog is already at 13.2 gigabytes. Is there a way to compact the catalog for backup or storage? My last catalog had about 8563 images and was only 11.62 GB in size.

Also, is there a way to consolidate different catalogs into one catalog? I could do it in Lightroom.

  First, do you store your images inside the catalog on import or do you leave them in their current location. As you might understand, the first option let your catalog grow faster then the second.
  
  Next, the size of the preview has impact on the catalog size as well. You could lower the preview size and regenerate the previews for all selected images. I have never tried or tested this, so this is a theoretical assumption. Worth a try? 😉
  
  Catalog consolidation is currently not supported in CO7. You can do this in a kind of workaround or exporting and importing, both with adjustments. Or wait until the feature becomes available. Note I have no information on if or when this will happen.

  why keep such big cats? just delete your images once modified.
