Jon, in all likelyhood you've just got a corrupt session file.

The quick solution is just to delete (or rename the session to sessionname.old), and create a new session in the same folder structure and let it regenerate previews for you.

If that doesn't work, then escalate the issue to Phase One Support.

You could also try running the Verify process if you have not already done so.

Brian - I can't even access the session. I can open every other session but when I try to open the one in question it just shuts C1 down. ?

in the menu, choose 'File' - 'Verify Catalog or Session'. It's worth a try.

The best idea is to build a new session as brianmerwin suggested. For sessions, the adjustments are stored along with the images. So nothing lost.

If that doesn't work, there is one (or more) corrupt setting file. To sort that out, create a new session and import the images in groups, step by step, After each import, close and reopen your session, maybe better close and re-open CO. For the failing group, create a new session, and import in smaller sub-groups. And so on, until you found that single image. For that image, look up the settings file in the 'CaptureOne' folder of your image folder, and remove it. Repeat for multiple corrupt files. You will have to the adjusting for these files again.

    Hans

Thank you to you all. I tried to verify but C1 would not allow me to open the files. I've now just imported the images from the original session to a new session and, so far, all seems OK. I hate it when this kind of stuff happens as I'm fine when I'm on my know path but crap when I have to detour. Luckily this is the first hiccup in 3 years of using C1 - I hated PS and still do every single time I open it!

Before you do anything else, update to 8.3.3 (newest release). Always keep up to date with the software.

and check out your "Application Support" folder. In the C1 subfolder there reside cached/finished/incomplete processing and sometimes sessions named with containing "scratchÆ’".
A lot of temporary stuff can be deleted.
The cached files/session data residing in your "Caches" folder can as well contain corrupt stuff and is worth a check as well.

Terrible advice. IMHO 8.3.x is BETA

Good one. I will keep that in mind!

8.3.3(.23) is the official download version from PO's website here:

first thing I would do is back up the RAW files on another harddrive. I remember in the bad old days of digital when a bug could corrupt all of your files... people lost work. Backup and then try solving the bug

I am not sure why you say that, but I suggest you contact our Support Team, if you have a problem with Capture One.

I can open all my sessions except the most recent one. Keeps on quitting when I try to open. Tried all ways to open. I can open previous sessions but not the newest one. The images open in PS but not C1. Client deadline is looming fast. Whats happened?
    Thanks

One thing to know about sessions is that they do not contain your adjustments. So if it is only your adjustments you need, you can just create a new session or browse to the folder from a working session.
If CO crashes before you are able to create a new session from the main UI, hold the Alt-key when starting. That forces the New Catalog/Session screen to appear before anything else.
