Dust reference image
I would like to create a dust reference photo for each camera (D800 and D800e). It was difficult to find info on how to do this - it appears as part of the LCC profile but can I create this ref photo only?

I have had good luck with removing dust spots from the any camera before or after the shoot. What I do is before the shoot is to shoot a white card filling the frame at the smallest f-stop I then use the spot removal tool to remove any dust or anomalies on the that frame. I then copy those adjustments to the clipboard. When I start the actual shoot I select "copy from clipboard" under the "next capture adjustments" under the camera settings. I then start the shoot and the spots will automatically be removed as you are shooting.It took a while to practice doing this a few times. This is really a great feature and kudos to the Capture One developers, as I shoot tethered with clients right at the computer and any spots are automatically removed as you are shooting and are invisible to the clients or me. It's a great feature. You can can also do this after the shoot. I have also tried to use the same frame from another session which also will work but for some reason it can be less reliable, although it may be that I am doing something different and my technique is flawed.0 -
I just ordered a kit that allows one to create the dust reference photo. It is essentially white translucent plastic. You take this plastic piece, place it in front of the lens, fire off a shot (increasing exposure 2 stops via shutter speed). This then becomes a dust reference/color cast/vignetting reference photo for the LCC pane in C1.
Bear in mind that a reference shot should be taken as conditions change (lens, focal length, f-stop, lighting, etc)
I just received it yesterday so I haven't played with it.

They mention that the "kit" allows that one of the filters can be used in a filter holder. This wasn't the case with my Lee system. The plastic piece is too thick.
I can say that I way overpaid for it. After ordering it, I found that Capture Integration had a version that was much cheaper, plus you get domestic shipping.
Don't have the link for it, but I did have to dig around to find it. Probably best to call. Trust me, its worth it to find out.

Thank you - yes I have done this with NX2 and this was my Plan B - I just thought there was a process by which I could perform an LCC including dust removal.

I finally got to play with the kit yesterday. It works very well.
I have a fibre on the sensor that was removed beautifully.
The lens I was using was a 45mm tilt shift. It had quite a bit of vignetting. This was also corrected.
Color cast didn't seem to be an issue as I didn't see any difference.
Anyway, it is a viable solution. I think one could do this on the cheap with a simple piece of translucent plastic. The software in C1 takes care of the rest.0
