Slow Import of iPhoto Library

    Something is amiss sir.
I created a 30K+ image catalog in just a few minutes. These were RAW files so thumbnail previews took much longer to build.
But the catalog build was really quick.
I keep all my images in one folder and iPhoto has never had anything to do with 'em. ( I despise iPhoto and the bastard child that was conceived from it.) That may be why mine took much less time.

I'm willing to bet if you took all of your images and copied them to another folder (images only), then import from that folder, it would be much faster.

Along with Media Pro, I also use Lightroom and Photo Supreme. Photo Supreme is more in the DAM family like Media Pro. But to be honest, I'm not thrilled with Photo Supreme's speed, ironically, it does behave better with Capture One than Media Pro does.
Lightroom has a decent cataloging system and has editing / printing.
Don't forget Capture One. It's more inline with Lightroom in that it a catalog and editor. I believe it has a 60 day trial. And you will need all 60 days as it can be bear to learn.

Thanks for the info, I did what you suggested and this morning I stopped the iPhoto import that had still only done 3000 photos and I imported the folders that contain all my photos. The import was all done in a couple of mins, The cataloging took about 2 hours, I will be using this alongside iPhoto for the 60 day trial and see how it goes. Im not that bothered about the editing features as I tend to do that in Pixelmator or Affinity Photo.
