Downloading from a CF card to an existing tethered session

In short, set the naming format the same in both the tethered shooting and in the import images dialog. Next, set the counter before you import to a value to fall in sequentially. Set the counter from the tool's title bar -> context menu (click triangle).

Note that this should work vice versa or in any combination of tethering and importing (and back to tethering again and importing again or do a second import after the first).

    Paul,
Your suggestion works fine when importing an entire block of images. But on a job where I am switching back and forth between shooting tethered and to a card, it is very inefficient. It would be far easier if CO5 would just allow us to use the "camera counter" when we import files. That way, they would be in sequential order as shot. So long as they are all shot with the same back. Having access to the "camera counter" would also greatly simplify batch renaming.

    Regards,
    Carter

Is the "Image Name" when importing from CF card not the same as "Camera Counter"?
Granted if you format a card this will change but does it not stay the same when switching from tethered to card?
For example, shoot 1-99 frames tethered then switch to card. Shoot 100-199 to CF card.
The software, when shooting tethered and using "Name and Camera Counter" as the naming convention would show something like _img-001 to _img-099. Then when you shoot to card and import use "Image Name" to import which should pick up where the tethered shooting left off, _img-100 to _img-199.
    No?

    No?

My answer is NO. (I have the same problem. It is driving me nuts!)

I am using Canon IDsMrkII. C1 5.0.1 (updating to latest version now)

Importing from card brings in the camera generated filename correctly.

(Although I seem to recall not being able to truncate the name to only the last 4 characters i.e _W5N_8901
to CustomText_8901. I say "seem to recall" because I am stuck on 3.7.9 because of this issue)

When using the "Camera Number" in any of my naming schemes the resulting number has no relation to the camera generated filename/number and I can't change or manually reset this number. It's not the actuation number either. ????

ps the work around Paul suggested in an earlier post really wouldn't be usable in one of my shoots either.

It is so easy in 3.7.9.

Christmas comes early for me if this ever gets worked out.

What I found very helpful in 3.x was: it was possible to use the existing session name and add the counter, even if tethered or importing from card. Now you always have to type the session name again on every import if you change between sessions.Thats not what I call worflow, it feels more like workaround.

I'm having a similar issue as mentioned above. I have a Nikon D700. When I shoot to card the filenames are _name1234
When I import the CF card via C1 and select "Job and Image Name" the camera generated filenames (_name1234) are appended to the job name. All good. But, when I tether and select "Name and Camera Counter", the "Name" gets applied but the camera generated filename (_name1234) does not. Instead, a 4 digit number is applied sequentially, starting with 0001. How to I get C1 to accept the camera generated filename during a tethered session?

    Or am I missing something?

    Nikon D700
    C1 5.2
    OSX 10.6.4
    15" MBP
